Lightbulb INFO on FD's rotors + calipers

I'm looking to put a custom BBK for my MSP and I'm looking to do it with RX7 FD's calipers + rotors.
As I'm looking around i spotted a place which sells 99 J-spec's calipers, what's the diff. from 99 J-Spec to FD's caliper as far as I can tell both sets are 4 cylinder caliper ?? Do they run on diff. size rotors ??

What can should I watch out or expect from the FD's caliper + rotors or the 99 J-spec calipers + what rotors they work with ??

Thnx in adv.

There are two OEM brake sytems for the FD. "99 J-spec" is not really enough info to tell if those are the larger ones, but they might be. Post a link.

In all honestly, both the 99 spec RZ Calipers and the US Spec calipers have the same Brake Pad Footprint. I think that would be a pointless purchase for you.

If you wanted to do this you would need to measure a few things first.

1. Offset of FD Rotor vs. Offset of MSP rotor.
2. Make sure you measure the thickness of each rotor.
3. After this interpolate the mounting location of the FD caliper and make sure there aren't any clearance issues on the inside of the brake hub.
4. Now you'll definitely want to do some calculations for brake bias and so forth.

You might need a bias proportioning valve.

The biggest thing to figure out is why you need to upgrade in this fashion? THe MSP Pad is already larger.

Measure the surface area between both pads and see if you actually get more material.

Those are good points as far as the pic's the first one is the MSP pads and the second are the FD pads ??
The only reason I haven't purchased them yet is bc I don't know which/what pads the TYPE RS/RZ (bigger ones) work with as I haven't seen any one sell them.

FD and MSP use almost same brake master cylinder so there won't be any problem obout it, even if it does changes the bias it won't make much difference.

As far as fitting them , i'll do a custom bracket but I'll need the calipers to work on the bracket and as far as rotors offset that won't be problem as it will get fixed by the caliper bracket or I'll source a two piece one .

I want to upgrade the stock MSP brakes just because i'm increasing the whp so I figured instead of spending same money on getting "sporty/race" rotors+pads and stuff why not upgrade the whole front and get a better braking you know.

I was told the TYPE RS/RZ ones are the biggest next to MAZDASPEED calipers for FD's which i don't have any info at all.

I like to stick with Zoom-Zoom family and FD calipers are very good quality to my knowledge so why not get em.

The RS/RZ pads use the same brake pad as the US Spec caliper.

THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS:

1. 99 spec caliper has an INTEGRATED BRACKET to accomodate for the larger Rotor.

That has no relevance for you because you need to make a custom bracket regardless.

If you want to do this then get a US Spec FD caliper and make your bracket. It'll be the same thing.

if the pads are the same than it be wise to just get the FD's ones, you are very correct on that part.

Do you know anything on the MAZDASPEED upgrade calipers for FD's ??
I've heard they big too but haven't found hard evidence on that.

I'm sure the Mazdaspeed caliper is a monoblock aluminum caliper. I doubt that it's forged. I wouldn't go through that much expense when you can get plenty of good calipers stateside.
