Hey guys I have a Tire and Rim Question...
I am currently thinking about powdercoating my stock FD rims black and getting some new low profile tires to go along with them... however out of curiousity, I was wondering how wide can I safely get my tires to be on the stock rims... I'm thinking of getting the ADVAN AO48's for my car.
Another Option is to buy some 17" rims. Probably some Gloss Black Tenzo R's or some Bronze Volks.... but I need some input on what tire size would be best...

First of all, 245/45 16 is the widest street tire you can run on the stock rims.
Secondly, I have absolutely no clue how you could be looking at EITHER Tenzo or Volk... One is typical cheap cast wheel and the other is a forged wheel costing ~$2200/set. What is your actual budget? Don't forget, quality tires will be another $500-$1000/set.
Go to the suspension forum and read the archives and use the search function.

I'm either going for a set of rims that I can drive with everyday and not worry about getting scratched up, or a pair of rims that I would have just around for special occasions...
my budget is not a problem, I have a fairly decent career and i'm sure i could afford both sets of wheels but I was just throwing somethings out there just in the ball park for a general idea of where I want to get my car.

How will you be using the car? If you are not tracking the car, I would just get a quality-made wheel that you like the looks of and that fits your budget. A quality cast wheel will be cheaper than a forged wheel, should still way reasonably light (my Enkeis are 20-21 lbs each), and will be strong enough for street use.
I normally recommend SSR wheels for people with reasonable budgets that are still looking for a quality wheel, but they do not make black wheels. You could go with CCWs, an inexpensive forged wheel, for about $2000/set. www.ccwheel.com
Tires, again, depend on your usage. I think DOT-Rs like the Advans are a poor choice for a regularly driven vehicle, but may work great for a weekend-fun car. There are many good street tires that have tons of grip but will still last 12-15k miles and are good in the rain. I think I'm going to try the new Dunlop SP Sport Maxx in a few months when my Toyos are toast.

SSR's can be powdercoated. If you like the price/look/weight, it may be worth it.
I'm using Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tires on my daily driver. I definitely wouldn't recommend it if you live in an area that rains a lot. Rain isn't really a problem, but deep standing water is. It won't last very long, probably 8000 miles of treadlife, but 6000 miles of heatcycle life. The grip though, is awesome. I can barely chirp shifting to 4th, but with even the best DOT tires (ie. Bridgestone Potenza S03 Pole Position, Michelin Pilot Sport PS2, etc) spin like mad.
DOT-R's are definitely a compromise for street use. Overall though, once you go to them, it's hard to go back.

Just kidding. If you have the budget, Volks will be your best choice for a strong good rim. However, you'll be waiting about 5-8 months to get them most likely. CCW & Enkei are going to be the next choices for a good strong rims for the money.
