I don't think anyone is running 245/45-17 because it is the wrong size! 225/45-17 or 235/45-17 is closer to stock diameter.

The correct size is 245/40, not 245/45 17.

You need to edumacate yourself....do you think tires are the same diameter on all cars? Go to www.tirerack.com and read the wheel and tire tech sections. There are also TONS of fitment threads in this forum.

1. 245/40 17 maintains the stock diameter, 245/45 17 will be 1-inch bigger in diameter than stock, which is great if you are going off-roading....

2. Mustang wheels are HEAVY and won't fit an FD anyway, the offset is too low

yes i admit i dont know too much about offsets and what not... and no, i dont think tires are all the same diameter on cars... well i am planning on installing racingbeat lowering springs, was planning on buying smaller tires, but i was just trying to see if i can get away with it when installing the springs... also, the mustang wheels do fit, do you mean they wont fit propely? like i said i dont know too much about offsets, but i think i read somewhere that the offsets on supra/rx7/mustang were all that same, +50mm? i forgot... any help?

I would avoid the Racing Beat springs....they lower the car too far without increasing spring rate (lots of rubbing problems).

Mustang wheels are NOT +50, more like +30 IIRC, but which Mustang wheel are you talking about? There are different diameters and widths.

geez.. mustang wheels are not heavy. 17x8 GT wheels weigh 17lbs.
and the offset is indeed +30.

1. Like I said above, the tires are 1" too tall.
2. Well, yeah, they bolt on to the car, but they are not a proper fitment. The offset is too low, resulting in changes in scrub radius, increased wear on wheel bearings, and lunched fenders.

My advice, sell the wheels and get proper fitting ones with correct tire sizes.

just wait till you can get to your car, then put em on and see how it looks. to check clearance (if its not obvious) you can disconnect the shock, then jack the wheel up into the car. if the tires hits the fenders, ditch em. if they clear, keep em.
i dont think you're gonna get a strait answer on here. i doubt anyone actually tried the mustang gt wheels on an fd.

I don't have to try out Mustang GT wheel to know a +30 offset wheel is not a proper fit!

ok rynberg, so buying smaller tires wouldnt really help? and josh i understand what your saying, i just don want to hit a dip while turning and be forced to buy a new fender... so what are the correct wheel sizes? and are they or not the same offset as supras? thanks

With a stock suspension, you could probably get away with running those wheels (with proper size tires) without catching the fender lips, but you'll still have the other issues I described above. Lowering the car will throw that out the window and fender rolling will be required.

Stock FD offset is +50....don't worry about what fits other cars, once you know offsets that fit, you can shop smarter. If you spent a little time here researching proper FD fitment, you would quickly learn what fits. There is even a sticky thread showing minimum offsets for wheels (minimum on stock suspension, not ideal, and not including lowering).

generally:

front
8-8.5" wide: +40 to +50 offset
9" wide: +43 to +50 offset*
9.5" wide: +47 to +50 offset*
10" wide: +50 offset and aftermarket coilovers*

*fender rolling recommended

rear

as fronts, but you can get away with 8-9mm less offset (not that it's a good idea, but it will fit)

TIRES: should be close to the stock diameter of 25", typical sizes would be:

225/50 16
245/45 16
225/45 17
235/45 17
245/40 17
255/40 17
265/40 17
275/40 17 (recommend rear only)
225/40 18
235/40 18
245/35 18
255/35 18
265/35 18
275/35 18 (recommend rear only)
285/30 18
295/30 18 (recommend rear only)

ok rynberg thanks, idk too much about how offsets and fittings, for ex...

front
8-8.5" wide: +40 to +50 offset

this means anything between 40-50 will fit right?

so i think if i get those springs, i should just sell the wheels and get some better fitting ones?

also do the s5 NA wheels fit on an fd? i have a set of those and they are also 5 lug, but not sure if they'll fit...

i think il just sell the gt wheels, dont have enough money for tires and its not worth it since im going to lower the car... thanks...

NA wheels are a max of what, 16x7? Why would you want to put smaller wheels on? Don't you still have the stock FD wheels?

NA wheels are max 15 x 6.5 on the vert. The common coupe wheel is 15 x 6.

The 16x7 GTUs wheels are the same as the 16x7 Turbo II wheels.

Just FYI - The original Bullitt wheels are 22mm but the '05+ GT wheels have a 42mm offset. Problem is they look like *** - The spokes are flattened out and the lip is virtually non-existent...

*edit* I misspelled Bullitt, oh the shame!

I happen to be selling my stock wheels..... the tires on them still have tread but they've been sitting around a couple of years so probably don't have the greatest grip anymore.

The cheapest solution would be to buy some stock wheels with new(ish) tires on them. I feel obliged to point out if you can't afford tires, I predict a painful FD ownership experience.
