Unhappy Help with HARD suspension

Hiya i need help!!!

I have a (93) J reg jap import RX7 and cant drive it because the suspension is just to hard, are they shot and in need of replacing or is their a way of adjusting them, i beleave they are the originals, please sombody help me

Rx-7s come with pretty stiff suspensions, but even the stiffest R1 model shouldn't be unbearable.

Original shocks were not adjustable, at least not on the US models. There may have been some that had adjustables.

The valving on the R1 struts was very stiff. If you want a softer ride, you should consider changing to the 94/95 springs. The springs are a little taller, and softer. It will raise your car slightly. You could probably find some used ones in the parts section for cheap.

Tokico adjustable struts may be a good choice.

i have a shock dyno, an extremely accurate spring rate tester and have dynoed over 25 rx7 shock absorbers and springs... along w 22 years of scca road racing.

perhaps you have the r1 shocks on your car. whoever designed the valving in those shocks hopefully isn't still working for mazda. if you have those shocks that is your problem.

there is no spring rate difference between 1993 and 1994 rx7 springs... at least the ones in the U S. they average 245 lbs per inch in the front and 181 in the rear and that is a pretty good longitudinal balance for the car.

continued////... i accidentally hit the send button.

with your stock springs and non r1 shocks your rx7 should ride nicely. the non rx7 shocks are very nice shocks. all of the shocks i have dynoed, many with 70,000 miles on them checked out as good as new. many people have changed their shocks to aftermarket so a budget minded person could just replace the r1 shocks w used non r1 shocks and be very happy.

an excellent package for the fd is the Eibach Pro Track springset that raises the rate 33% front and rear, drops the car just the right amount and when combined w the stock shocks literally transforms the car. and the ride is quite comfortable.

if i had money to spend i would junk the r1 shocks, pick up a set of stock shocks (just make sure they don't leak) and switch the springs...

What exactly is the problem with the R1 shocks? I though the stock R1 was a pretty decent street/track compromise considering it came from the factory. Most other sports cars are just way too soft.
