help chose my tires

So I'm looking for good tires at a reasonable price. I think I've narrowed it down to tires would be 205/50/15 on an '85 GSL with ReSpeed Race coil overs and swaybar. Car is used for aggressive canyon driving and Auto X type fun. also some commuting.

(a.) Falken Ziex ZE-912 from Discount tire

(B.) Sumitomo HTR 200 from The Tire Rack

(c.) some thing else

both tires come with in $6 of each other shipped

I'm curious too, what rims you got?

I got a 85 GSL with stock 14" 4x100, I want to get beefier tires.

You might consider the BFGoodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S. There is a 50 rebate. The General Exclaim UHP might also be worth looking at in that price range.

The Kuhmo XS will be worth the $15/tire price increase. Its in another league compared to that junk. I was also really impressed with the Ecsta ASX when I test drove a car on them.

I'm considering the XS for my 400+ rwhp FD. Supposed to be great all purpose street/autox/road race tires based on all the reviews I've read on various forums on the net.

The Ecsta ASX didn't get as good a review on the tire rack as the Sumitomo HTR 200. and the xs at $15 per tire is out of my price range at the moment if it were $15 over all and substantially better then I could possibly squeeze it in. what didn't you like about the Sumitomo as compared to the XS ans ASX?

Maybe wait a month and save up the extra 60 bucks? Up to you really, but quality tires are definitely worth it with these cars

Sumitomo HTR+ 9/10 (Great tire, doesn't last long but at least the price is great!)
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 8/10 (Great tire, just the high price drags it down)
Kumho Ecsta ASX 7/10 (Great price, good tire, but it's too noisy at the limit for me)

It's funny how independent tire satisfaction is of price these days...

Its hard to beat the Sumis for $48.00 a piece. Results of last three autocrosses:

1. Finished 2nd place by 2/10ths of a second behind a highly modified Miata on Hoosiers.
2. Finished 2nd place by 3/10ths of a second behind the same damned car.
3. Finished 2nd place by 4/10ths of a second behind a '75 RX3 on Hoosiers (85 second course).

Always beating other very nice cars on race rubber outside of my class too. Vipers, Porsches, RX8s, and lots of Miatas (yumm)..

These are 215/50/13s on 13x8 wheels. Rest of the specs are in my sig.

Falken Ziex ZE-912 are hands down my favorite set of tires over the past year, so they have my vote.
