Got a lump on the side of my tire

Hello,

Uhm to make a long story short I ran over a curb with one tire and now i got a lump on the outer part of my tire. There was sustantial impact but i did not notice any lump once i took a look after it after the incident.

It seemed to have occured after driving for a few miles.

Anythoughts as to what i can do to get the lump out of my tire?

And what are the replacement costs for a tire of that nature?

Regards

That tire is ruined. You'll need a new one.

Yes, it's dangerous. It can pop at anytime. The radial inside the tire is what broke causing the rubber to bubble.

Tires go for around $80-$180.

Might want to throw some duct tape on it for the time being.

I have gotten lumps on the sidewalls before. The tire is coming part from the inside. The only thing you can do is get anew one. I did drive on a tire with a lump for over six months with no issues. It probably wasn't a great idea.

yup I agree with all of the above...it happened to one of mine and all the belts inside were coming apart. very dangerous at higher speeds to blow out a tire.

it is a tumor :P chemo or new tire.
its still kinda cold and near melting time in TO, so a highspeed blowout is even worse

At a minimum, to get a bubble on the side of the tire, the inside rubber liner of the tire has (at least) a hole in it, allowing air into the tire carcass, and locally inflating the sidewall rubber, separating it from the sidewall.

At worst, tire cords have been broken, allowing the bulge to occur.

In any case, you can limp around at low speeds like that for a while until you get it replaced, since little will happen at low speeds if it goes flat, but don't drive at freeway speeds in case it rapidly deflates or blows out.

The importance of this point cannot be understated. Driving around on this damaged tire, you run the risk of a sudden blowout. The faster you go, and the warmer the temps are, the more quickly this WILL happen. So it is most likely to go when you're on the highway for longer drives - and that's the most inconvenient place and most dangerous way for it to happen.

The fewer and slower miles you drive until it's replaced, the less likely it will blow out. If it was my car, I'd take it to my trusted tire store tonight and leave the keys in the drop box. No point in delaying the inevitable.

Are the stock tires Summer or All Seasons?
Would it matter if i got a Ultra High performance All season compared to a Extreme performance summer?
Im only looking to replace 1 wheel which is the front right

Just get a rubber mallot and hit the tire squarely on the bubble and push it back in. Don't use a metal hammer though or you risk moving the bubble to the inside where you can't see it or possibly scratching your rim in the process. If you hit it right it will go away and all will be good again. Don't listen to all these other people. They have no clue!

Knowing a little more info would be helpfull... What generation car? What kind and size tires are on there now? Is the wheel bent?

as a general statement, If your on a big budget you can just replace the single tire with a different one of the same size. Its better to replace them in pairs tho as to have a matching set left and right. If you can get the exact same tire and have it shaved to match the wear of the rest thats a very good option as well.

speed rated rubber really doesnt make a difference if you have no intention of driving fast. Even the cheapest tire on the market can happily take you to the speed limit. Obviously nicer tires can and will perform better, but there is no harm in cheaper tires if your not going to exceed their capabilities.
