Getting rims for my FD

Hi there!

My first post at this forum:

Im a swedish FD owner and I´ve been looking for rims for my baby for a while now. The problem is that there isn´t that many wheels for the FD over here. Though I´ve managed to find copy´s of BBS RS-GT with the width 8,5" and 9,5". The offset of these wheels are 40.
So my thought was 8,5" in front with 235/40/18 and 9,5" back with 255/35/18 or something like that. Will this fit? I´ve been searching the forum for a while and it seems like the correct offset for 8,5" in front would be like 37!?
My ride isn´t lowered...everything stock.

Thanks

Johan

Hi there

I have just got some 18" wheels onto my car this week with offset 45 front and back so i dont think the offset will be any problem, however, the front tyres came with the wheels were 235/40/18 and they rub the plastic liner. so today went to pick up some Eagle F1 225/35/18 and now no problem at all!!!

I do wonder if any brand makes 245/35/18 cos it will have the closest diameter to the stock 16" setup....

hope this helps a bit

Jeffrey

255/35 is also pretty damned closed too; just a little bit bigger and are a very common size. that is what alot of members have done with a 43-45mm offset on 18x8.5s. That is what I will be running on my car in the front. someone else chime in if I am wrong

18x8.5 and 9.5 +40 offset will fit just fine. Ideal tire sizes would be 235/40 and 265/35.

235/40 should work no problem, especially with a 45 offset. This is what I'm running and my car is LOW -- 25" to fender. 225/35 is way too short. I would look into other problems with your suspension.

255/35 is too big for an 8.5 wheel, stick with 235/40 or 245/35 -- Pirelli and a few other companies make this size

8.5 is on the lowest end of what you can fit a 255 on. since i know that we all know how to read tire sizes. we know that the difference in width between a 245 and a 255 is 1cm, which is a little less than 4/10ths of an inch. it would affect your section width by about 2/10s of an inch and would bulge just a little. some people like the wheel to be flush with the tire, but a little bulge will keep the curb rash away.

ideally, you are right, you should run a 9" rim, that is what the tire manafacturer refers to as "measured rim width" but that doesn't mean that a slightly narrower rim can't be run. that is why the give ranges as well as measured rim width when you buy tires.

if i'm wrong i will find out once i get them on my car.
i took the chance since 245/35 limits you to about a half dozen tires. 235/35 are virtually nonexistent and a 235/40 adds almost an inch to the diameter.

No, 235/40 only adds about .4 to .5" to the diameter. I run that size (along with 265/35 -- same diameter) and have no issues, despite my very low suspension. If nothing else, having a slightly taller wheel/tire raises the ground clearance a little bit in front, which is always helpful in California -- land of the steep-*** driveways.

damn that is easier than pushing these #s through a calculator. converting back and forth, etc.

that has officially been added to my favorites.
