Is fitting 5x112s to a FD risky?

Guys, I went wheel shopping today but had no luck. The 5x114.3 wheels I want are not in stock and the distributor won't import a single set on request. They have set order dates and they are willing to order on that time with their batch, which is months away. The problem is I'm looking but can't seem to find any 5x114.3 wheels in 18x9 or 18x9.5 sizes, let alone finding a 18x10. We don't have many japanese cars with staggered set-ups.

There are plenty of 5x120 and 5x112s in the country due to the popularity of BMW, Mercedes and VW. The salesperson in one of the shops I visited today said I can use 5x112 with either slight machining of the holes or with special wheelnuts (with moving head section) however I am not sure if this is a healthy solution

I witnessed many people running 4x100 on cars with 4x98 oem dimensions with no problems. But then again they were small hatchbacks not a FD RX7!

What do I do?

wheels are something that you should not skimp on. yes, it may go on, but its going to put alot of stress on the wheel studs. what do you mean you can find wheels in those sizes? there are tons of different ones. what are you after? you may have to cough up the extra money and have some shipped in.

What I mean is no one has 18x9, 18x9.5 or 18x10 in 5x114.3 stud pattern available in stock. Due to popularity of Mercedes, Audi, VW and BMW, everybody has staggered 5x112 and 5x120 wheels in stock.

I'm not trying to skimp on wheels, if it's not going to be healthy or put a lot of stress on wheel studs I'm not going to do it. I'll just have to wait until the distributor is ordering new batch of wheels and add my order in then, which will take few months.

Same with my koni shock absorbers, none available for FD RX7 so I will have to pay upfront in March and the distributor will order them for me in March and I'll receive them in April I'm just impatient that's all but won't do any butchering to rush things.

yeah i wouldnt even go there. i would talk to someone outside the country who could ship something to you. i would never give my business to a place that expects me to wait until its convienent for them to get my stuff, unless theres a backorder at the manufacturer or its made to order stuff.

if your looking for japanese wheels i would recommend

http://www.feastautoexport.com/Feast...91e4c2d149ad68

or rhdjapan.com

either way send them an email with what you are looking for.

I don't blame the distributors, it's because of high customs costs and taxes, it pushes the total effort and cost too high for both the seller and the buyer.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

Btw this is what i've been talking about for different PCD:

http://www.priracing.com/product.php...r-nut-m12x1-25

These nuts have been designed with a floating washer attached, which can move approximately 1-1.5mm in a 360 degree circumference. This allows a wheel of correct centre bore size (hub centric) to fit several different PCD applications whilst still keeping the nut centralised and parallel within the recess pocket of the wheel avoiding cross threading the stud. Also known as wobble nuts.

On a normal wheel you will see a conical shape to the end of the lugnut and the bottom of the counterbore in the wheel hole. This type should only be used on a properly matching bolt circle, or else you could bend the studs, cause the nuts to work loose, or some other Bad Thing.

The wobble nuts however should take care of the problem. It sounds like they are designed exactly for your situation and from what I see I would not hesitate to use them on my car. I would be extra fastidious in torquing them to ensure they seat perfectly without losing tension.

Looks like wobble nuts solution or RX8 wheels for the time being, until I find the perfect 5x114.3 wheels. I found a set of rx8 wheels for a good price I might try them out with mild spacers.

You might also check here: http://www.rbwheels.com/

They typically have some good deals on used "good" wheels.
