I'm looking to buy a set of stock size tires for my FD
stock is 225/50/16 or I may go 245/45/16.

I have been told S03 Bridgestones are the best. What other tires offer great handling, treadlife and low noise and don't cost as much as the S03's.

I hope this thread is not too redundant. but I searched and did not find a brand specific tire thread.

Any help is appreciated.

 

You get what you pay for....

Here's my list of good tires:

*Bridgestone S-03
*Pirelli Pzero line
*Yokohama AVS Sport

Cheaper but good tires:

*Dunlop SP8000
*Kumho Ecsta MX (not the 712s!)
*Yokohama ES100

I tend to avoid Goodyear tires on general principle and Michelins are almost always outrageously overpriced.

Some of the lightest tires are the Toyo T1-S, which I forgot to put under my list of "good" tires up above. The S-03s are one of the heaviest. It's all a trade-off. I'm running Dunlop SP8000s for this set. It will be between the S-03s and the Toyo T1-s for my next set.

 

How many miles do you want? RA1s are good for 8000 miles. I've been running V700s on the street, but the RA1s get better with wear while the V700s go away after a couple months of street driving. Flames?

Your right you usually do get what you pay for.

My FD is not a daily driver, and will probably only be driven 4000 miles a year or so. I would like to take it out on the track a few times a year.

 

The Pirelli P-Zero Asimmetrico and P6000s are light for their sizes (I run 255/40-17), perhaps 25 to 26 lbs. rynberg is right...the Toyo Proxes T1-Ses are the lightest in any given sizes. Continental Sport Contact 2s are also in the lightweight category, 25 lbs for 255/40-17.

 

Proxes literally blew my mind....traction is a beautiful thing!
