1 K-sport kontrol pro 839$ shipped e-bay

2 36 way adjustable. spring pre-load adjustable and seperate from ride height adjustability

3 so far they seem great

4 stock height to probably frame on ground

5 includes front upper pillow ball mounts

6 havent had them for more than 3 weeks but so far so good after i got them tuned and set up correctly

7 hopefully i dont have to rebuild for a bit but i think any motorcycle shop could rebuild em easy

8 plan on keeping them on the car

9 they are great bang for the buck. do everything i wanted them to do. car is totally different beast.. brake later, better latteral G's easier to set up the balance of the car.. like for over or understeer. and it looks so mean now that its 2" off the ground instead of 14" like stock haha

For my review:

1. Zeal Function Xs: Much quieter than any other coilover I've used. Comes with 8/6. Monotube, indpendent preload and ride height adjustment. 6 way adj.
2. Camber plate Front, Rigid mount rear = Hardened bushing, no pillowball = quiet
3. Phenomenal Quality, valvable and rebuildable in the USA
4. Around Low $2000.00 range.

Great Road Feel, not as bouncy as my JIC FLTA2's or my STANCE. I however did find that my car probably performed better on rough mountain roads with just standard strut and spring combo. Tokicos and racing beat springs. However on smooth course, high speed, etc... the coilovers were just butter.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, BUT EXPENSIVE.

My alternative for budget coilovers were STANCE coilovers.

Stance GR+
9/7, also Monotube
Pillowball front and rear
15 way adj
Around low $1000.00 range.
Servicable/Warranty in the USA

Great coilovers but do ride quite stiff, or I'm just getting older. The latter is probably the case.

But of course: www.autornd.com

i've used a lot of other coilovers, but have concluded that for a

BUDGET COILOVER = STANCE, hands down

BRAND QUALITY COILOVER = ZEAL, hands down

It's not that there aren't other coils out there, it's just that these companies have incredible service skills and i've never once had a problem with these products. I can't say the same for other companies where the down time has been ridiculous or the attention to detail was lacking.

Deep thoughts by,
Rishie

What about coil overs that aren't bouncy?

I was really thinking of getting KIC FLT-A2s, autocross and fun car, take it to track days and such.

I have had JIC FL-A2 (8/6) on my previous track car (S13) and also Stance GR+ (9/7). Liked both of them, edge to JIC though (well it's a higher level, more $ coilover). Stance is of course king for entry level product imho. It definitely competes at a higher level, and advantage is its low price. basically its a $1500 coilover selling for less than that, but still comparing to other $1500 coilovers.

On the FC, I have custom valved Tein housings and dampers with SWIFT springs (9/8) and they feel amazing. Eventually I will get some custom made KW's that are rebound/compression adjustable separately. One day.

1 what brand, how much, from where:

Tein Flex, I bought them from a vendor here in Canada, but I've seen them for $1350 US in places.

2 what are specs?

16 position rebound adjustable, 6/5 spring rates (I substituted 7kg/mm springs in front), preload and shock height adjustable. Spring rates can be changed +/- 2kg/mm without needing a revalve.

3 quality?

Quality is good, they've got good damping characteristics (I've seen shock dynos), and they last a long time (30k+ miles and still going for some Miata owners). They're highly reccomended as a track/street setup among FD owners.

4 height range

Front: +0.6" to -2.2"
Rear: -0.2" to -2.6"

5 upper hats inc?

Yes, camber adjustable in front.

6 longterm review

Not for me, but others on the Miata board are very happy after 30k+ miles on them, and some FD owners have had them for quite some time too.

7 rebuildablility (prob not a word, but you get the idea)

Yes, rebuildable and revalveable in the US. So if you want to change spring rates a lot they can accomodate you.

8 are you gonna try a new setup soon or keep them

I'll probably enventually go to a high $ racing coilover, but these are a very good compromise for track performance and daily driving comfort.

9 recomend theese or not?

I would absolutely reccomend them. At the local autocrosses there's problably more Flex's than all other aftermarket suspensions put together. That says a lot for how much people like them.

5 upper hats inc?

nope.. uses the stockers

6 longterm review

has held up well so far... no discoloratoin no rusting... no signs of sagging or softness.. still kidney punching stiff when i want them to be

7 rebuildablility (prob not a word, but you get the idea)

yep but not at ur average joe place tho

8 are you gonna try a new setup soon or keep them

nope, i love em

9 recomend theese or not?

deffinately.. if you want a "hardcore" setup.. these are plenty for most ppl...

no bounciness, damn stiff.... car turns like a skateboard... zero body roll..

deffinately a "manly" suspension setup

1 KTS $1100 or so from splparts

2 9/7kg springs, inverted monotube front w/ HUGE shock piston, seperate height/pre-load adjustment, 16way adjustable, a lot more.

3 quality? premium.

4 normal height to LOW.

5 upper hats inc? yes.

6 this is my second drifting season with them, feel as good as ever. they are at max low, have never bottomed out. gets street driven as well. comfortable, lots of control, adjustment is very noticeable. don't know what else to say.

7 rebuildablility (prob not a word, but you get the idea). new shocks from spl (I think).

8 keep.

9 definetly.

tein flex FTW! same as what others have said about them. actually have my fronts out to tein usa for a rebuild right now, only $120'ish per strut, not bad imho, especially after 3+ years of driving on the streeet with them very low, actually only developed an issue from my own mechanical / install fubar on a pillowball hexnut and lower mount being loose off an on.

and I agree with Rishie on high end ZEAL coilover models, if you have the loot, they are incredible.

also, a friend has the mazdacompetition koni/gc setup on his widebody FC and it is everything as my teins but rides even more comfortably but with slightly stiffer rates, because those koni's are valved very well to the stiffer spring rates and it is incredible, but more money than flex's by far, maybe $500 more?

1 tein super drift ... retail for $1500ish ... got them for $800 here used

2 fronts 8 rears 6
3 good quality so far but the test of time will see
4 my car is slammed and has a long way to go still ... good amount
5 pillowball upper mounts were included in mine
6 i've had these for a few months... can be daily driven to a certain extent. i like the feeling but having an edfc would definately help
7 can be rebuilt locally in downy, california from tein
8 this set up should last a good while but i probably would not rebuild them... i've heard of other suspension set ups that i would like to mess with
9 these are good coilovers.. a bit pricey if new but it depends on you. I myself would probably try the stance gnr+pro for my next set up or something along those lines
