Im thinking of having CCW make a set of wheels for my FC. I know Ive seen more than a few FDs on this forum with these, and just thought Id ask what you think of them? How are they for weight, etc? I want 17x9 fronts and 17x10 rears. I have already been in contact with them, and they told me they can do that and price will be just shy of $2k. I will need both in a 15mm offset (may go 10 in the rear), can anyone point me to another wheel that is made in those sizes and offsets, just so maybe I can have another option? I'm Looking for a mesh wheel. Thanks

as i remember correctly they should be around 20lbs
its like 17-18 lbs for 17x9

 

What is the budget? I know many Japanese wheels that can be made to this spec. I may even know some lesser expensive ones. Namely the FN01RC comes in similar offsets to that.

17x9 +15 and 10: +12. Sounds pretty perfect to me. I have a connection to 5Zigen, hehe, our EG Civic. Let me know if I can assist you on a referral.

The offset needs to be ~50mm, not 15mm. However, I am sure that CCW will make them with the right offset -- when I called to order my CCWs, John Purner knew all the dimensions off the top of his head. Here's my quick pros/cons for the CCWs:

PRO
- Available in custom sizes and offsets, allowing maximum sizing (mmm.. rubber)
- Significantly less expensive than Fikse, HRE, Kinesis
- They are pretty light for 3-piece modular wheels, and tend to be at least as light as (or lighter than) the brands with more bling
- Very strong forged centers (very unlikely to bend them), and the spun rims can be replaced quickly for reasonable cost if you have a run-in with a large rock or curb
- You can get the wheels quickly, and you can replace or fix a wheel quickly if you run into some misfortune

CON
- Not as pretty as Fikse, HRE, Kinesis
- Not as light as 1-piece forged wheels

For an FC? That's +40.

+40 was stock offset for a 6-7" wide wheel. With a +40 and a 9-10" wide wheel, It would in no way clear the suspension. My 17x8 +32s were damn close up front with 235/40s on them.

 

For that size, go with the 5Zigen FN01RCs. I have a pair (gold) of 17x9 +12 offset that will work perfectly in front.

If you are going over 10", that is when the options suddely dry up and CCWs become a good option.

Does anyone know of any 10"+ wheels? What do the Supra guys use besides mega $$ Fiske and Kinesis?

I recall seeing results somewhere for some strength testing between several popular aftermarket wheels. I believe the CCW outlasted the Kinesis and Fikse products. I have been thoroughly pleased with my CCW's ... I opted for the track version with the black anodized centers. The 17x9.5 weighs a tad over 16lbs, and 18x10.5 .. about 18lbs. VERY light for strong, durable racewheels. The only reputable brand, that I know of, for lighter wheels is Kodiak Racing .... and I have heard horror stories about the waiting period for receiving.

At $1760/set, the CCW's are probably the best deal on the market. John also offers a 5-spoke street wheel now. I think they're only available in big boy sizes though (18's and 19's).

 

Kodiak has some shipment problems (local guys bitch about them all the time since Kodiak is local to us). Also, most feel that their flat centers are not the optimal engineering design, strengthwise. Nice looking rims tho...i was planning on a set for the Miata until I was "warned".

WRT CCW, you can opt for stainless or titanium fasteners to save some more weight. Ti will save 14oz on the rim perimeter...prolly quite noticeable.

Thanks for all the info. I actually decided against the widebody idea for my FC, and just bought a set of Volks. I will definately keep CCW in mind for future projects though.

 

When you add in the fact that a TriPoint or similar widebody kit is $1k at the minimum, then it needs installed $500-1K+, and painted.... you are looking at an expensive endeavour on top of the cost of wheels/tires.

It's kinda difficult to navigate. Have to go thru street wheel section first.

 

I would love these wheels....super light!! One piece forged and a great company...

but his street wheels are only 19 and 20! no 18 I keep checking every once and awhile hoping that 18's will show up but no luck.

When he first released these wheels I emailed him hoping that he would make some 18 but he stated "highly unlikey"

I'm so glad Kinesis is moving away from exposed bolts on the wheel face. Fikse's done this for years. Glad Kinesis is finally catching on. Nice wheels

 

Actually those wheels are made by Maya and licensed to Kinesis to distribute under the Kinesis name. Those wheels fit only Porsche fitments at this time I believe. If you go to the Porsche boards or look up Maya you will see that wheel is originally manufacted by Maya.
