CA Best set of coilovers....?

hello everybody i'm looking to get coilovers for my car and i'm not so familiar in this area... i've been looking at a few systems and i've narrawed it down to about 2 kits, the D2 drift series coilover kit and the megan racing track series coilover kit.
http://www.meganracing.com/products/...=669&catid=101

http://sportcompactwarehouse.com/d2-.../i-231838.aspx

my budget for a system is about a grand... and i'm mostly interested on good coiovers for drifting which i will mostly be doing... also what are the best rates for springs... i'm not sure if it's called rate or weights... but i'm just talking about like the stiffness of the spring.
please give me any suggestions you may have or give me a price on your used kit

Go look at Stance or Powered by Max if you want JUST a drift coilover. They don't do anything much better than that though.

it is spring rate, and it is measured in unit of weight / unit of distance. US convention is lb/in; metric is kg/mm. megan and d2 are a complete waste of money.

there is no absolute best rate for a spring. most coilovers come with a 8kg/mm front 6kg/mm rear. no reason you can't start from there and change them later down the road.

if you think stance is only for drifting, i guess this will blow your mind.

Start by reading this: https://www.rx7club.com/suspension-wheels-tires-brakes-20/howard-colemans-fd-chassis-setup-723617/
Then read it again.

Those are not off the shelf stance and not in the OP's 1000 dollar budget.

yeah and? you want to go back and add a qualifier now? how about this guy?

http://www.amsperformance.com/r_upham.php

bottomline is people run different stance models in everything from autocross to drift to hpde to who knows what. they aren't "JUST a drift coilover."

and contrary to your assertion that "they don't do anything much better than that though," people do just fine with them in non-drift venues.

are they the end all be all general purpose coilover? **** no.
but that's hardly different from any other 1000-1500 dollar range coilover.
and just like all those other coilovers, you can do whatever the **** you want on them.

Post all the links you want. For every link you post, i can post another link too proving you wrong.

I knew a guy who won rallycross events on Ebay coilovers. Does that put your worthless Ebay coilover on the same level as an Ohlins? No. Does it matter to the average joe who thinks aftermarket > oem? No.

Do you want to really play that game?

I can play that game. Why don't you go to AMS's time attack evo and see what suspension they are running when the shop name is on the line?

I know a guy with 2-3 sets of stance, they all blew their shocks with 1-2 years, and till then, they all rode like ****, and guess what? He drove a similarly setup car with a set of proper track coilover/shocks. You can imagine what his next investment was.

I have driven on stance too. Stance is good for what it is, good price, going low, US based support, better than OEM (in some ways), and good for drifting/basic high performance driving. Put your car that has stance GR+ coilovers on some real track coilovers, and we can compare the lap times. And, no you cannot do w/e "the **** you want" with stance. It is what it is: a budget coilover. It has the features of such, and the adjustability range of such.

There is a HUGE difference between a 1200 dollar and a 3000 dollar coilover. There are cheaper shock and spring combinations that can be setup to run faster than 1200 dollar coilovers.

I am no suspension engineer, but how many Super GT Cars or OEM sportscars are running stance?

Sorry that you got butthurt over what i put on the table.

really? you're going to tell me there's a difference between a 1200 dollar coilover and a 3000 coilover? NO WAY! really? OMFG REVELATION. thanks for the useless info.

let's get ohlins off the table and go back to what you said. you said stance is only good as a drift coilover. that's just ******* wrong.

if you had said that all 1000-1500 coilovers generally blow and are budget coilovers, hey i totally agree with you. do all jdm wannabe coilovers suck? pretty much. do 1500 jdm coilovers blow ***? absolutely! do off the shelf konis have better damping than any other budget integrated coilover in its price range and above. absolutely.

that's not what you said. you said stance is 'only good for drifting,' as if some kid who has no interest in running national level competition is going to go flying off the track because his 1000 dollar coilover is so set up for drift he insta-spins first time he takes a corner a little hot.

that is just completely, utterly and ridiculously wrong. he can indeed do w/e the **** he wants. he can run autocross on them, he can drift on them, he can hpde on them, he can daily them and he's going to be fine. would he be better off with a koni yellows and eibach springs, and maybe a gc sleeve? unless his goal is to slam his car, i would say yes. but once again, that's not what you said.

Read the link I posted and you'll have the knowledge to make that decision yourself rather than relying on people you don't know to tell you how to spend your money.

Since I have some experience with the Stance GR+'s I'll chime in. I've run a few track days on them and I won't say I'm a great driver because I'm only still learning how to push the car, but the instructors that I had were all impressed with the handling manner of the car. This year I believe I have become a much better driver and will make my own comment on the suspension. With heat cycled Falken RT-615s which are not very good in the rain to begin with, during the and I quote my instructor "the worst conditions I've seen" at Lime Rock between the green track, the 40 degree weather, and the constant rain I spun zero times through out the day. The car was controllable at the limit and was controllable for the 5 times I went past the traction limit. At no point did I have snap oversteer while correcting a situation, if you setup your car right these coilovers will work well. Also, to speak on the dampening, I hit the rumble strips multiple times throughout the day and was not upset once, the suspension did its job and kept the car stable even when the strips were hit at a good speed. That's just my input, if you have any questions ask away, but my vote is for the Stance.

+1 for stance. I love my gr+'s. I would probably pick silk road rma8's as my favorite "cheap" coilover, but they are a couple hundred more than stance and dont have the same support.

Well he just said he would be willing to spend a bit more, but yes, Zeal is a good bit more but not horribly priced either.

You guys that are interested in Zeal's need to read DigDug's thread on his Zeal's or shoot him a PM. He drives his FD on the street and track. He can tell you all about them Then again, how many of us are really good enough driver's to fully utilize a good set of coilovers? I'll be the first to tell you I'm not and all I have are Tein Flex's. If you are looking at spending about a grand I would recommend a set of Koni's with ground control coilovers.

I need to get coilovers for my t2 but don't want it to ride totally harsh on the street. I will be using it for a fun car not track or anything like drifting just want better performance w/o too much of a harsh ride. Thanks
