attention all first gen suspension gurus!!

well I've posted this problem previously in the first gen section and couldn't narrow the problem down... so I come to the suspension section to pray to the gods of fb wisdom...

here's the issue.. I have a pronounced shake between the speeds of 45-50 mph, i say shake because it is much more than a vibration. The steering wheel violently shakes back and forth, it feels almost as if the driver's side front wheel is about to fall off. This happens both during acceleration and deceleration BUT goes away whenever turning either left or right.

Now here's what I've tried so far, I've replaced the brakes pads and turned the rotors, which showed little to no signs of warpage. I've raised the front of the vehicle and shook the wheel to look for play and couldn't find any. The tire rods, ball joints and idler arm and bushings are in good shape. I properly adjusted the preload on the front bearings also. I even replaced the steering gear box with a unit with much less mileage and less play and still the shake is there. I have yet to check the alignment but have noticed no irregular tire wear to suggest it is out of spec but it does pull to the right a bit. Also I have rotated the tires to check if this problem was tire related and that didn't help either.

I hope I provided enough info to help diagnose this problem.... also I don't know if it's relavent but my car has a Mariah Mode 4 widebody kit and 15x8.5" wheels with 225/50/15's . Thanks in advance for any advice you may have.

I borrowed a buddies 5 lug FC wheels, when I switched over to the big brake kit in my turbo FB. The car they came off of went in and over a ditch. Anyways the wheels shook my front end so bad, I could barely hold the steering wheel, At first I thought I messed up installing the big brake kit. So I borrowed another buddies 5 lug fc wheels, totally smooth. I would pop the front wheels off and take them to a tire shop, to have them check out. Thats probably the problem

Did you check the drive shaft bolts? I had a bolt (1 of 4!) come loose and create almost identical results. The difference is that as time went on, over about 2 weeks, the speed at which it became noticable went down and down until finally, anything over 15mph would vibrate the car. It's an easy check as well.
