Just curious if anyone has ever ran a 275/35r18 on an FD? More curious on front fitment, as I know its a bit taller than the norm. On a 10" wide wheel in a 45 offset. I normally like a bit of a taller tire, and would run these in a square setup so I could at least rotate front to rear. Ive ran 265/35r18 up front for a while now on a few different tires with no issues. By specs these are only 3/10s" taller so shouldnt be much different but just thought Id throw it out there for some feedback.

 

Personally I feel that's too tall. From memory, OEM wheel/tire OD is shy of 25", and you're looking at 25.7," which is significantly taller. Again, IMO, it'll look goofy.

I'd pretty much agree with you rich. I'm running 265/285 stagger now and I just don't feel the nominal stagger is worth it and not being able to rotate, so was just looking to simplify and run a square setup. I could run the 255/35 or 265/35, or even 285/30 and be safer as far as height. I dunno just thoight of trying something a bit different haha.

 

Rxmfn7 you may want to check out Maxxis RC-1 275/35 18 if you are looking for a track day tire for your 3 rotor beast. They run REALLY wide and are only 25.4" in diameter. Not terrible for the front of an FD.

Not all tires are the same widths either. an AD08R run ride and you could run a 265/35/18 all around.

Or run a 255/35/18 up front and 265/35/18 rear like said above.

 

i'm planning to get 285/30r18s here in the near future for my car... running on 18x10 +38mm all around. I've been running 255/35r18s up front and from my calculations, the 285 will rub just a little more as you turn the wheels compared to the 255s, but I don't remember the exact difference...

a friend was running the 285s all around on the same wheel specs and didn't have issues (front fenders rolled)... but she moved the wheels/tires to another car for the time being

 

Yep 285/30r18 is a fairly common setup to run on all 4. Even I have previously ran them on the common ccw 18x10 +50 fitment. Most tires in that size are slightly under 25" in diameter. By comparison a 275/35 are usually around 25.7"

 

I would run a wide 255/35/18 tire on a 10" wheel. AD08R being my choice.

 

275/40/17 on 9.5's or 10's used to be the hot track set up until many 285/30/18's and 18" wheels became available and the norm. Fritz still runs it.... 275/35/18 is basically the same thing, except that there's no reason unless you only have a 9-9.5" wheel that you can't run the 285/30's on.

 

That size runs on the rear pretty easily, but on the front you'll have to run a higher height to keep the tires from rubbing the fender wells. Obviously Fritz does well with it but he also admits it's a compromise.

 

the 275/35/18 is too tall a tire to run in the front IMO. Why even push it?

the 285/30/18 is a much easier fit, but you are going to have sloppy sidewalls on a 10" wide wheel, especially with some of these wider extreme tires which have tread widths of 11".

I would either run a 255/35/18 with slight stretch (the ad08R has a tread width of 9.9" wide, or I would go with a different wheel and tire combo.

I do have 18x10 rpf1 wheels and run a 265/35/18 tires all around because they were super cheap. I also have a set of 18x11.5" +42mm NT03 with 285/30/18 tires and they have a lot more room then my 265's on +38mm offset wheels in terms of hitting the fender liner and closeness to other items around the wheel well.

 

One reason is that tire selection in 285/30r18 seems to suck for some reason. Basically it seems Im limited to a direzza Z2 or an Ad08R. Neither of which is a bad tire by any means, but Id really like to run an RS3 as I like them alot, and with that its either 275/35 , 285/35 or then they jump to a 305/30. If you search tirerack for a 275/35r18 there are 6 pages of tires. For a 285/30 there are barely 2.

 

The 275/35/18 is a tougher fit due to the height of the tire. you will rub the liner and possibly the chassis when turning. It's not worth it.

a 255/35/18 front tire will work GREAT on a 10" wide wheel. you could step up to a 295/30/18 all around and have good selection, tire height is still 25". I rub a little with a 18x10 +38mm on a 265/35/18 (25.3" tire height). I could not run a 25.7" tire height and little wider width since it would run through my front wire harness. It wouldn't even be close. The 285/30/18 and its 24.8" tire height and 42MM offset wheels give me tons of room. I don't rub anything, not even the fender liner like I do with my 265/35/18 +38mm wheel. I could maybe even get away running a 295/30/18 tires with a slight fender pull in the front. Maybe I will try this next time.


Keep in mind if this is street driven that the tires do need a little heat in them to work well. if you are 100% street driving a vehicle and don't drive aggressively running a 255/265 is probably as wide as you want to go.

 

275/35r18 is very possible to run at the front of an FD. The fenders were rolled and a small part of the lower control arm was shaved for rim clearance. Wheel dimension were 18x10 with +51mm offset. Rubbing of the wheel liner will occur, but nothing major IMO. The driver's side has a body wire harness that will be damaged if not relocated due to the tire rubbing as the suspension flex.

The rears were 18x10.5 with +51mm 315/30r18 with rolled fenders only. No pulling.

 

Thanks for all the replies. Decided to just play it a bit safer and have a set of 285/30s purchased. Trying out the new Z2 starspecs. Will be running a 18x10.5 +47 all around.

No, I was this close to buying a set of those, but unfortunately I just dont really care for the look of the PF01 and I know I wouldnt be happy with them. Im having a set of Work MCO widened for me to those specs.

I think 285/30-18 aren't very common due to the skinny sidewall and not many OEMs fitting that particular size.

 

Not sure why you're having trouble finding 285/30/18. That was a Porsche 911/911 Turbo rear tire for years.
