Any Suspension Mods Required for CCW 18x10's?

I'm thinking of picking up a set of CCW's 18x10 track setup. I was reading on Max Cooper's site that you may be required to run coilovers to run these rims. Is this true? Here's the quote from Max's site:

"I have only had them contact the fender once, which was solved by cranking the ride height up a notch on that corner. These won't fit without coil-overs that use 2.5" springs, but I already had those."

Can anyone shed some light on whether or not coilovers are required. Thanks a lot.

Yes it's true. You're not going to fit 18x10's in there without 2.5" diameter springs which means running coilovers.

Does anyone know which coilovers fit this description? More specifically, I've been looking at some Tein Flexs. Will they work? Thanks.

Yes the TEINs will work for this app as long as they are coilovers.

BTW- these rims and the tires (285/30/18's) are complete overkill on the street. If you don't plan on tracking the car often then don't buy this setup. Waste of money.

They are overkill for the street, but I want to start making more of an effort to take my car to the track. I don't really have a lot of fun on the street because police in my area are abundant and bored

Any aftermarket coilover uses 2.5-inch springs and will clear.

Are you saying this because of how much the wheels cost or because of the width and tire choice?

Both. With the short sidewall you will be more prone to bending rims and the car will also ride like crap due to the short sidewall. Having those tires up front the car will also follow every crack/imperfection in the road (tramline effect) and the days of driving with a few fingers on the wheel are over.

You physically can't use all that a 285/30/18 up front can offer on the street without driving like a complete lunatic anyway.

Get 2 sets of rims. 18x10 CCW's with Rcompounds for the track, and some mellower for the street. ie 18x9's 255/35/18 up front and 18x10's on 275/35/18 out back or some 245/45/16's on stock 16x8's.

You'll also need upgraded trailing arms for the rear if you wish to run the rotateable +50 offset that CCW's usually come in.

You can fit a 10" in the rear without trailing arms, but not a +50.

GC coilovers, like all the rest, will work.

I agree w/ GNX7... 285/30/18 is too much up front on the street to deal with unless you're going to track it and absolutely can't have a 2nd set of wheels.

This is the perfect street setup IMHO.

My 245F and 275R street setup also required some fender lip rolling. Especially on the front when the wheel is cranked and the springs compressing a bit (eg. going up the ramp from street to driveway).

I've been running 245's and 275's on the street for a year and had no rubbing at all. I guess it depends on the wheel. Fender rolling is something I want to avoid if possible.

One of the main reasons I've chosen the CCW's is the availability of replacements. I've learned the hard way that "super rare" wheels will leave you with 3 wheels stacked in your garage, and no option to replace the 4th. It's a shitty feeling.

Heck, with stock wheels, stock tire size and stock ride height I can occasionally catch the front half of the front fender lips. Always happens at high steering angles with the car heavily loaded up in the corner.
