Aaron's Mostly Ultimate Susp Package!

Alright guys here it is...i took some info from another forum member, i hope he dosn't mind (but i've already PM'd him, so he knows)

This is for the FC...not to be confused with the FD considering its the next letter in the alphabet...lol.

A.MazdaTrix.com
1. Strut Top Mount X2
2. Shock Upper Mount X2
3. Strut Boot/Bumpstop X2
4. Shock Boot/Bumpstop X2
5. Susp. Toe Elimenator
6. Susp. Camber Adj Rod (aluminum L/R adjustable with it still on)

B. RacingBeat.com
1. Sway Bar-Front
2. Sway Bar-Rear
3. Sway Bar End Links X2

C. RE Speed
1. Energy Suspension Bushing Set

D. Corksport.com
1. Eibach Lowering Springs
2. KYB Front and Rears AGX's
3. Front and Rear Strut Bars....

Now, i did some shopping around, i know most of these websites have the same products listed...but Corksport had the lowest prices on the things listed their (saved like $60). Does my list sound good so far? Im not a Suspesion MASTER or anything, lol. But it sounds hella good for me so far. Grand Total without S/H and Tax....$1971.46.

Their are a bunch more of OEM parts that are associated with the suspension parts (bolts/nuts/rings?/etc etc/ that i will be ordering as well. Also, i'm planning on getting Tranny/Motor/Differential mounts...just havent added them to the list...LMK what you think.

Also, do you think because im going through all this trouble getting the parts i have listed, should i keep the KYB's? or go full coiovers ( like Tein FLex's)

This is for my 88GXL, which will be my daily drive all the time(since the FD will be down for a while due to some extensive mods ), and on ocassion, i'll hit up some Auto-X courses just to have a little fun. Theirs still a lot more i don't have listed, Tires, Rims, etc etc... i know this has been asked 1,000 times, but atleast i have a better headstart than anybody else. LMK what you think Suspension/AutoX experts! SORRY FOR THE LONG THREAD!!!

Nearly $2000 for just that stuff..

eesh..

all that stuff from Mazdatrix (other than the toe elim and camber bars), why do you need them? Save money and buy coilovers and you wouldn't need those, nor the KYBs and springs.

The RB bars are nice but expensive. Those things you can buy used or go with a cheaper brand. Or depending on the type of racing you do, you don't need both of them.

So if i drop everything from the Mazda trix site (except the toe elim and camber bars) and the KYB's and Springs, and keep everything else, would you reccommend the Tein Flex's? (maybe even the EDFC). I'd like to keep everything else though...and do the coilovers replace the entire system so i dont have to buy those little OEM parts i was talking about? Also, could you direct me to somewhere where i can remove the factory AAS(i'm sure i can find it in the FSM, and go from their)...i thought their was a writeup floating around here somewhere.(removal of everything, wires and all)

I'm getting some Flexes with 7kg/mm front springs, they're a good shock performance wise and they're durable. I think you're better served doing that and running with stock bars (maybe ditch the rear) if you see track or autocross use in your future. That's more or less the rates and bar setup reccomended for beginner road racers.

If it's just for the street do sways, springs and shocks, but you don't need all the extra OEM stuff unless its in bad shape and needs replacement, in which case it'll get cheaper to do the coilovers. You can skip the bushings and aftermarket endlinks too if you want, they don't do that much for a setup like that.

I think the best price on Flex I've seen is from Speed Machine at $1350.

Cool...where do i get the 7kg/mm front springs? Can i just tell them to swap them out, or do i have to buy the coilovers, and order them seperate? My car will rarley see TRACK time...mainly just cones being set up in a huge empty parking lot, actual tracks will be a rarity, but a couple every now and then.

I think at first...im just going to get a feel for stock everything, untl i can "learn" the cars capabilities. I still want everything on the list, i'll just add things as i go along, instead of installing them all at once and try learning that way. So the sways would make it harder to Auto-X? Do they just not alow the car to roll enough or what?

You have to order the springs seperately. Look on Tein's site and you'll see them, $100 for two. They reccomend you only swap withing +/- 2kg/mm before a revalve is needed.

I've done more or less what you're proposing. I did bars, bushings, endlinks, braces, camber adjusters and now I just ordered the coilovers. I got the Racing Beat bars and they're proportionately stiffer in front than the rear, so the car understeers, the Suspension Techniques or Eibach bars would give more oversteer.

It's a good way to go to spread out the expense, but dollar for dollar you're better off just buying the coilovers.

For learning leave the car stock, then you'll get a better feel for how it works.

Thanks for the info...i'll take a look and changing out the springs. I'll look into the Suspension Technique sway bars too.

I plan on learning with the car stock for a little while. And just start saving up for the parts in the future, and kind of add them one by one to get a better feel of how it feels with each different addition.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... Polyurethane bushings are worth their weight in gold. They really take a lot of slop out of the suspension and eliminate some binding in the front suspension that the stock control arm bushings create. That which causes suspension geometry changes (eg. Camber/ toe)

They cost less than $150, buy them, install them, you will be happy, and your bushings are old and need replaced anyways.

I guess I should have rephrased that lol. I get a little tired of people saying you shoud just do coilovers and nothing else. Plus, I wanted to give some positive feedback on a cheap mod.

Yea, I agree that replacing 20 year old bushings is a good thing. Mine didn't look that great, but still, dollar for dollar coilovers are the biggest improvement.

Also, just for the street, a little slop with the stock bushings is ok, and they're going to be better for NVH than the stiffer poly.
