99 spec brakes

I have a chance in getting some used brakes from a freind who has a 2001 RB-S model FD, it includes calipers, rotors and pads.

After doin a bit of research on this board, it seems people only talk about the 99 RS/RZ brake which are good upgrade for pre 99 car. Mine is a 92 car, and my disc and pads will need changing soon. So I was wondering if these calipers off the 2001 RB-S FD are any good for me, are they any different or shall I jus get some new rotor and pads.

I hope you guys can help, as I need to get back to my friend as soon as possible.

the rotors and calipers they are bigger than the old ones. it won't fit under the stock 16" rims so you better have a set of 17" rims if you plan on using them.

other than that, they are a nice upgrade

I'm not that familiar with the later spec FD's. I assume the 2001 RB had the larger brakes??

If they do they indeed are a good upgrade. The pads are the same size but the rotors are larger. You will need to modify your dust shields to fit the larger rotor and also run at least a 17 to clear the brakes.

Thanks very much for your help. But accordinging to some data, the RB-s is using 16" as stock wheels whereas the RS or RZ is using 17" so I am not sure if there are any difference in terms of the calipers.

THe rotors has already been changed from standard to the black diamond ones so they are not standard. I am jus thinking if there are no differences in the calipers between mine and the 2001 RB-S then there are no point changing them. Unless the calipers are bigger, I am sure the one on RS/RZ are, jus not sure about this funny RB model.

And he wont sell me the rear ones becasue he has only the front upgraded.

Thanks

I could be wrong, but I am only aware of two brake sizes for the FD. It sounds like your friend has a set of the smaller size brakes available. So they would not be an upgrade for your car.

This is exactly what I am unsure of and want to get it right before buying them, no point if they are the same.

The best way is to be a member of MazdaMotorsports...only takes 2 auto-x a year. The rx7store and Corksport can get them too.
