There is not a single 285/30/18 that is recommended by any tire manufacturer to fit a 9" width wheel. A couple models allow as narrow as 9.5", but most have a minimum width requirement of 10". Stick with 255/35/18s, maybe 265/35/18s.

Yeah, 285 mm works out to 11.22 inches. Minimally you'll want your nominal rim width to be AT LEAST 85% of the tire section width. In the case of a 285 mm tire section, 85% works out to a 9.5-inch rim width. The lower the aspect ratio of the tire, the more important adequate rim width becomes, as there is very little sidewall on a 30-series tire to be "sqaushed" onto a narrower rim width!

Anyone running 285 on a 9.5" rim? I was looking for 10" but the company only makes up to 9.5"

Look at the spec sheet (available on Tire Rack's sit or from the tire manufacturer) for the tire model you are considering. IIRC, very few 285s are approved for use on 9.5" rims.

either run 265/35-18s, or find another set of rims that are available in 18x10. not only would 285s on a 9" rim look hideous, but will also hinder performance dramtatically, and probably be a little on the unsafe side if anything goes wrong. even 285/30 series tires on a 9.5" rim is pushin it a bit...IMO.

I agree, a 9" wide rim is too narrow for a 285. Either get a 10" rim, or go with a 265-275 tire.

Most 9-inch wide rims are actually 10-inches from outside rim lip to inside rim lip. 255s are 10 inches in section width. You can't anymore perfect than that!
