I finally got around to throwing on some new wheels I picked up about a month ago. They all seem to look and line up great, but on my test drive, the fronts rub the top of the inner fender liner on even the smallest bump. Heres my current set-up (to the best of my knowledge):

• Stock 93 Shocks
• Tanabe Springs
• 18x8 +38 wheels all around
• Front Tires: 245/35/18 / Back Tires: 255/40/18
• Fender lips are not rolled

Any help or advice would be great. I just got the entire engine rebuilt by Pettit Racing so I'm not really looking to spend a ton of $$, just looking to get it to where I can drive it comfortably on a daily basis. I could do that now, but the rubbing just seemed a little bit too much for me. I'm thinking maybe get new shocks/springs up front? This would save a ton on a full set of coilovers since the rears seem to be fine.

Those are pretty close to the same diameter as stock tires - so rubbing at the top is a bit of a surprise, offsets seem OK too.

What were you running before for tires and sizes?
What's your ride height (to the bottom of the fenders)?
Anything else change recently?

 

(1) Run more negative camber.
(2) Roll the fenders.
(3) Use heavier springs.
(4) Raise the car 1/2".

 

 

HadaVette - Before these I was running the stock wheels and tires. Comparing them together before putting them on, it looks as the new wheels were about an inch taller. Not sure on the ride height, but seeing as I used to scrape every speed bump on my stock wheels, I'm suspecting that the springs are just really sloppy.

Yeah, it sounds like your suspension is worn out. You *shouldn't* have fitment issues with that setup.

 

The stock wheels are a 50mm offset, so they will sit about 1/2" inboard of these. And you are running a 245, just a little wider than the stock tires, so they stick out a tiny bit farther. (I couldn't see your pics from work, so I didn't see how much you were hitting the fenders, along with the liners at the top of travel.) Lowering springs need to be stiffer to keep from bottoming out / hitting the fender liners, but they often aren't. I was running 235/45-17's with a similar offset, and would hit the fender a bit like you until I had the fenders rolled. But these were also a taller tire, which makes it even more complicated.

Do you have similar clearance on both sides of the car? The pics looked like you are hitting mostly on one side.
