240Z wheels on a 4 lug FC: questions

I'm talking to a guy that's got a set of aftermarket wheels that came off a 240z. Now, I know 240z's usually run really low offset or even negative offset. I'm trying to determine if they will fit my car and need some help.

The thing is, he doesn't know the offsets, but he's got their measurements otherwise so I can calculate the offset.

Front wheels:

width: 7 1/8 inches
backspacing: 4 11/16 inches
offset: +28

Rear wheels:

width: 7 7/8 inches
backspacing: 3 3/4 inches
offset: -5

Looking at the FC3Spro website (http://www.fc3spro.com/TECH/MODS/RT/rims.htm) it looks like the fronts would be perfect, but the rears would extend past my fenders. It seems odd to me that the front and rear would be so different.

So, should I keep looking? It's so hard to find a good deal on old school 4 lug wheels...

Thanks.

Keep looking. Also, since when are there 7 1/8" and 7 7/8" wide wheels? The offset will be written on the wheel itself, as is the size information.

It's not that 240SX's take super low or negative offset wheels per-se, it's like here where a certain segment of the crowd likes the "mad tyte drift style" with huge lip, low offsets and stretched tires. I think there's a lot more in the 240 world though, as it seems to be the standard starter drift car.

I believe those measurements are from outside rim to inside rim. The full width of the wheel. Would these offsets make my car look ridiculous?

I'd really like a flush look and better handling. My current wheels are 16X7 +40 primes (I got the set for $40). The problem I have is how far they sit in and the mushy feel of my suspension. I've got tanabe springs and tokico blues and all my bushings appear to be intact, but my car is slow to respond, leans a bit more than I would like, and feels vague in corners.

I know one of my problems is that I have 225's on 7 inch wheels, which = pure mush. I got some false info when I was tire shopping...

Maybe comparing it to a stock FD is wrong, but after driving that car, this one feels like it handles like a minivan.

If it's 7 1/8" from edge to edge then it's either a 6" or a 6.5" wide wheel, so worse than what you've got now. The rears would be a 7" at that rate.

The rears are apt to hit the fenders, while in front there's still going to be a bit of a gap.

You really don't need huge wheels and tires on your car, just having decent tires, replacing the bushings (they get soft) and maybe upgrading the sways will likely get you to where you want. You could run some spacers if the gap bothers you that much. Tires have a huge impact on feel, so maybe that's your problem now.

They are probably 6.5" wide front and 7.5" wide rears.

I had to double-check on the bolt pattern, as I swear the 240Z was somethink funky like 4 x 108...but you're right, it's still 4 x 114.3.
Some people assumed you were talking about a 240SX, but they are totally different cars!

Your 4 x 114.3 bolt pattern shares with some of the Hondas and from AE86's.
This gives you plenty of options - you just gotta look around.

I'd pass on those 240Z wheels...

Thanks for the input. As far as suspension goes I'm a little in the dark.

I'm going to pass on the Z car wheels.

What kind of spacers do you recommend? What's the biggest I can safely go?

I'm going to need hubcentric ones because of the prime wheels...

Oops, I read 240 and my mind automatically went to SX.

No spacers is what I reccomend if possible, but if you do end up needing to run spacers, then if they're less than maybe 20mm or so you don't really have much choice other than sandwich style ones that slip over longer studs (ARP Corvette ones work). For longer then get some QUALITY ones with their own studs, don't chance cheap ones, the studs are likely sub-par and more likely to break.
