205/50r15 AZENIS or 225/55r15 ZIEX 512?
205/50r15 AZENIS or 225/55r15 ZIEX 512?
Hey im looking for some new tires to use in autocross and road course racing. The two tires im looking at are the Azenis and the Ziex. The only problem is that the Azenis dont go any wider than a 205 in a 15". Do you think the grip will be significatly less with the 205 Azenis as compared to the 225 Ziex? Thanks guys
The Azenis are a sticky, low wear rating high performance summer tire. The Ziex are a all-season tire (though a very good one). Grip will be significantly MORE with the 205 Azenis. For a dedicated auto-x/RR street tire, the Azenis are hard to beat. Edge Racing sells them cheap, too.
If you can afford a two sets of wheels/ tires, the Ziex for street, Azenis for racing is excellent.
Don't forget larger tires don't aways mean more grip. Think of a ballon: the contact patch doesn't change much as the ballon gets larger, it's only when downward or lateral force is applied.

i went through discount tire. Vulcan tire wanted more money than discount tire (after shipping) and also didnt have them in stock. I just ordered the 205/50r15's a set of 4 shipped to my door for $368!
i had the ST115s. great tires in dry or wet.
i have also driven on the 512 ziex's. has more grip than an overblown all season has any right to have.
the old RT215s were awesome too. i have never driven on the 615's unfortunately.
there is a new 912 ziex that has been getting rave preliminary reviews. check them out.

the old ones were like that, and then they got all oily when they got hot. but the 615's seem to like heat from all my experience. when running different tires in back, I get decent understeer when they're cold, and when they start to heat up car starts to oversteer more.
I run 205/60/15 Zeix 512s, its been ~5000 miles and the sidewals on the front are completely shot and the insides are money. The rears are fine. I had the car aligned when I had them mounted, I have a feeling that my driving has a lot to do with it though. They grip very well considering the price and the fact that they're all seasons, they don't squeal much either. I personally wouldn't go stickier than the 512s for street driving, you can't beat the price. Plus I can barely do donuts with the 512s on my car, yours might be different. Definitely very important...lol. I'll probably get a set of S5 T2 meshes and run the azenis on them for track use.
