18x10.5 front with 285/30/18 - How?

Hey All,

I hear that to fit 18x10.5 with 285/30/18 wheels in the front of an FD you need an offset of +50MM and 2 1/4" Coilovers. Can someone confirm this?

What are my options with 2 1/4" Coilovers? I want something middle of the range price/performancewise with approx 550 lbs front and 400-450 rear springs.

Car will be occasionally autocrossed with either good street tires or race tires (hoping to find a coilover with enough race to perform decently with both kinds)

18x10.5 front with 285/30/18
18x12.5 to 18x12 rear with 335/30/18 to 345/30/18

^Nothing wrong in too much grip, as long as the camber and toe have been set accordlingly.

+45 is the offset to have.

You still need to pull and roll the front fender.

Better to just run 18x10 +50 offset....fender rolling recommended.

I'm running 285/30/18 Kumho V710's on 18x9.5 with a 38mm offset.

Fender rolling required for the front, might get away without it in the back.

Anybody ever run 295/30/18s up front? I've heard of them in the back, just not front.

most 295/30R18 are so close in width to a 285/30R18 that there isnt a big diffeference or big gain in performance also the 285 size is usually easier to find and has more brands/choices to pick from.

That's what I'd been told before, but the particular tires I was looking at were offered in both sizes, so I didn't know if I would be shooting myself in the foot by going that extra centimeter.

I had 285/30R18 and 295/30R18 in Advan Neovas and they were almost identical.
I cant really see any difference in performance from such a small difference as there are so many other variables to consider in your cars setup before you claim the 10cm to be the reason for a win or loss.

I don't see it transforming the car, but more meat is more meat. If it fits, why not? By the way, why did you have 285s and 295s? If you meant front and rear, then why didn't you just do the same size all around so you can rotate?

I bought the 285's as a pair locally and was planning on using them up front and then when I needed to order rears I figured why not go up to 295 wide as they were available and I had the room in the fenderwell. I knew I wouldnt be rotating because I was counting on running thru the rear tires much sooner than the fronts. So, once I got them I saw there really was no discernable difference, I mean come on, really, its not like a 255 vs 275.

it could depend on the exact tire model though, soem mfg'ers might make a 295 that is almost an inch wider than their same model in a 285, I dunno, anything is possible but I would check the mfg'er spec sheet to see if your splitting pubic hairs over the issue.

Ive seen more of a difference in 315's from different mfg'ers, some 315's measure out to almost 335 and others are like 295, know what I'm saying?

Yeah, I've seen differences (big ones) between manufacturers, same goes for shoe sizes.

Isn't that the whole point of rotating tires, so that you can wear them evenly when the rears start to get a little more worn than the fronts?

yeah thats the point but my use was an exception to that general rule... I was roasting the rear tires and I mean SMOKIN' 'em and loving it.
for me it wasnt like a track car or street car where I wanted to make use of the tires full lifespan. I was enjoying my LS1 swap to the fullest and just roasting the tires all over town and it was hella fun, hahahahaaaa. totally LOL out the window, blazing smokey trails down abandoned warehouse districts, it was dirty as hell but beautiful in its simplicity.... roast tires, have fun, go fast as hell, get scared and go home to relax.

most excellent.
