18 inch wheels on 3rd gen (FD3S)?

hey I'm looking for some 18 inch wheels, cheap but looks good on the fd. i prefer to spend more money on tires then on the wheels.

but i do want them to look reasonably good. maybe some rota wheels? anyone with some ebay 18 inch wheels would like to look at some picture of some fd with 18 inch ebay rims or any brand.

post picture and also size with offset.

thanks and if possible where to buy

I'm a big fan of the Enkei RPF1's. Inexpensive, strong, and lightweight.

Stay away from Rota and ebay brand wheels, you can pick up a nice set of jdm wheels for cheap. Check our forsale section or http://www.vrwheels.com/18-inch-5-lug-c-25_27.html.

05+ mustang wheels fit FD's well. they're CHEAP, and look pretty good IMO. for a cheap wheel lol. tons of styles to choose from, and they're all <200 a piece.
i think some 18x10 black chrome FR500's would look dandy on an FD

RPF1's are a good choice. Or you might consider just getting some good used wheels. Seems like people have trouble selling used wheels on this forum, and they end up going pretty cheap. Go that route, and might actually end up with some decent wheels.

look through the Sale/Wheel forum, or hit up some regular used part sellers like Fritz or AllRotor.

For years, Rota was correlated with Honda's because of the offsets and widths they provided. The widest rims they used to offer were usually 7" with diameters only up to 15". Over the past 2 years they have begun to offer 18" and 19" wheels as well as wider width. The piece that hasn't changed much is the R&D which goes into their design and creation.

The main thing people dislike about Rota wheels is that all their designs are copies of more expensive wheels. To be honest, cheap wheels have a place in this world. If they were coming up with their own wheel designs, even with the lesser quality, I don't think people would give them half the grief they do today. But today, they are copying.

Typically with wheels, you can only pick two when looking at wheel characteristics:

Cheap
Light
Strong

However with Rota's, you sometimes only get one (cheap). As long as you know what you are buying, it's not a problem. Just don't expect an inexpensive wheel to take the abuse that a higher price wheel might take and you'll be fine.

Rota's are junk IMO and don't belong any where near an FD..... either stick with stock wheels or save up money for something decent..... again IMO

Re: ride comfort..... um, I have some very stiff Zeal Function XS (12kg F/10kg R) so I can't really speak to that

lol since when is 12k/10k very stiff? That is pretty typical for fd coilovers, I should have you go for a ride in some of my customers fd's running 18k and 20k spring rates.

Brian those pics are not really fair, I can post pics of expensive wheels damaged like that also. Those obviously were not like that from any normal driving or racing conditions. I personally dont have rotas on my car and I dont like that they copy other wheels but people saying that they are not good quality and are not strong are just haters. Look up the top time attack cars in this country and see what wheels roughly 50-60% of them use...Rotas. I also personally know lots of people that track and auto-x their cars regularly that have been rocking Rotas forever. They're knock offs but they're not bad for the price by any means.

It's too bad ROTA does not currently make the quality of wheel needed to compete in ALMS, Super GT, Grand-AM, or any REAL sanctioned motorsport where careers depend on quality car setups and winning. However you will see brands like SSR, Rays (Volk Racing), BBS, Forgeline, Work and other serious performance wheels.

Tooling to make those wheels is not cheap, and the tooling + R&D costs would be passed on down to the end user. Which in turn would rise up the cost of the wheels significantly. Low pressure, and gravity cast wheels don't cut it when wheel performance really counts. Even then, there are different levels of casting.

Business common sense is that you can always lower the price even if your product is really expensive, but once a community is used to cheap quality/prices, they won't want to buy something really expensive from the same brand. Because they already have higher end brands in their mind when they want to drop $2000-$3000 on nice wheels.

The Rota dreams are all built off sponsorships, drift events, and lower ranked time attack cars.

To me, that doesn't say much. If you are really on a budget and have the mentality that wheels are just "rollers", Tire Rack has some cheap chinese wheels for $60-$70 a pop. Surprisingly, the "budget" crowd stays away from them.
