17x10 et 57 question..

According to the wheel/tire fitment guide this will not clear stock suspension (misses by roughl .25"). However, what I don't know is what it won't clear. I want to keep stock springs/shocks but I will be replacing the trailing arms. Is it the trailing arms that will be in the way? If so replacing those would solve this problem, but if not I will have to keep looking.

I am not really interested in running spacers as I would rather just pay the extra money to order myself in the perfect offset than do that..

I wouldn't mess with this if the wheels weren't $800 cheaper than buying new by getting them this way, so hopefully running the aftermarket trailing arms would allow them to clear.

Any help would be appreciated.

I suppose, you could get a 10 - 15mm spacer. Not ideal, but that would help you out. Most people complain how sunk in a +50 wheel looks.

It is the trailing arm that limits clearance in the backspacing direction. Measuring the backspacing directly would give better information if you have access to the wheels. "17x10" wheels aren't actually 10" wide at the outer edges of the rim, since the 10" dimension refers to the bead width for the tire. In reality, different 17x10" wheel models will have different actual widths.

For a 17" wheel, 7.375" of backspacing is about what is required to clear the stock trailing arm comfortably, IIRC. A friend of mine had 17x10" with 7.5 backspacing, and they hit the trailing link and wore it away a little bit under load, but still "worked" I guess (a bit scary, though). I have doubts that aftermarket trailing arms would free up enough space for 17x10" +57mm wheels. If you get them and find that they rub, however, you could just run a small spacer. If you have the option with the trailing arms, or wish to do a little modification, choose the spacer positions at the body end of the link such that the front of the link is spaced over toward the middle of the car (inboard).

(Note for other readers, to avoid confusion about backspacing with different-diameter wheels -- 18" wheels allow a bit more backspacing, since the trailing link mounts more inboard at the front -- my 18" wheels with 7.5" backspacing clear the stock link.)

I will just wait for a better fitting set to come up for sale or order new over the winter. I don't want to order new now because of the wait time to build and that fact that it would be october before I got them which is kind of pointless since I would have about 1 month of good weather left. If I can't find a nice used set soon I will just order new in Jan/Feb so they are here for spring.

Thanks for the information.
