It depends on what kind of tires you are looking for. There is a huge variety of tires in 16-inch sizes, probably more so than any other size. However, the recent top high performance tires are all migrating to having the largest size selection in 17-19 inch sizes. Being that it's a 63 Bug, this is probably not a big deterring factor...

Because you asked, "is the tire selection good?". Don't you know what you posted, and why are you asking questions about a '63 Bug here???

well because I wasn't asking about a bug, but rather being able to find a good selection of tires. ie. if I go to the local tire shop will I be able to find a range of tires, tires are not car specific.

Frankly there are reasons why I like the bug, don't need to get into that here. But, this is a good forum. Here you have members that don't drive rice and I value your opinions. This is hard to find where I come from, not to mention I'm doing things with my car that few others will. I enjoy reading Racecar Engineering, but I don't own my own f car.

Rip, the stock FD wheels are 16x8 (as Adam mentioned). There are plenty of good performance tires that fit from 225 up to 245's from a LOT of manufacturers. We never have a hard time finding tires for the right performance or price.

As far as the 5Zigen rims, I don't know anyone running the 16" sizes, but there are several people running the 17 and 18's on here and love them.

There are lots of modified "sleeper" bugs out there. Many of them are very fast.

I just bought some new Toyo T1-R tires 245/45/16's on stock FD rims. $590 out the door. I don't know what kind of tire you are looking for.
