Step By Step S-AFC Directions...

Here is the situation. Basically i'm in VA and I have to drive back and in one weekend get my car inspected, tuned, and a few misc. things fixed and sorted out. Basically my car while I was gone got a new turbo in and my mom is going to be the one to drive it back home for me. Problem is, I havent messed with my S-AFC enough to know how to describe the steps over the phone to her to get some basic settings down, and she has NO clue about the S-AFC at all.

Basically gsracer told me the following:

I'm going to assume you have the safc tied into the pressure sensor. On the low map set the afm correctoin to -23 percent across the entire rpm range, set the cross over at the point when you cross over into positive manifold pressure. Set the high map to cross over at 5-6 pounds and set it retardedly rich; like - 8 percent across the entire rpm range.
So if anyone could give me directions that could be understood by my mom (aka tons of details) that would be fantastic. Also, its a S-AFC 1, blue one if it matters. Like the pic below...

Thanks,
Brian

Wow you got some guts letting your mom drive your car. I think the safest thing would be to leave the settings at 0% until you get it into your own hands. There are too many things she could screw up trying to adjust the settings like getting into the sensor type and make your car totally undriveable. How much do you trust her?

Has the settings been done for an s5 fc? If not:

it should 4 cylinder with the arrow up to the right,
flap type sensor
and a 06 in and 06 out for the s5

Is the safc tied into the pressure sensor or the tps?

I trust her a lot compared to all my other options. She wouldn't drive it agressively at all, wouldn't boost at all, and she's a very safe driver, even considering I think that most women cant drive, lol.

Yeah the settings are good for the car, but the percentages are at 0 now.

I just wired the S-AFC as per the instructions on the Apexi website. Its wired into the AFM and the Throttle Signal. Would it be ok to have my mom just drive it on 0%? Wouldn't that be way too much fuel and bog it down? I've got 4x720cc injectors now and a Walbro 255. Would it even run with so much going into it? Its like a 20 minute drive back to my place from where it is now. Then like an hour to get to the tuning place when I would be driving.

I doubt your mom is going to be making WOT runs down the highway....

Set the low map to -20 percent and the high map to -10 percent. She'll be able to drive like that just fine; and it's purposely rich on bath maps just for peace of mind.

Even with the s5 tps, I'd rather tune a turbo fc via the pressure sensor.

Are you looking for directions on how to change the settings, or what settings to use? I'm assuming you are asking how to explain it to her to get it set (in lo-throttle) to -23 across the board like gsracer said, right?

Well, see if this makes sense to her.

Turn car on and make sure the S-AFC screen is on.
Pres the "Prev" button continuously until the screens stop changing, this is the first screen.
Use the UP or DOWN arrow to HIGHLIGHT the "Lo-Throttle" option.
Press the "Next" button.
You will now see a graph with just axis and nothing more. Look at the screen ad you should see that you are currently on the part that says "1000rpm"
Press the DOWN arrow until it reads -23
Press the RIGHT arrow to move into the next increment which should read "2000rpm"
Press the DOWN arrow until it reads -23
etc until you get to 8000 (this is assuming your settings are in 1000 rpm increments, if it is in 500rpm increments change the numbers accordingly)
Once all increments are complete press the "Prev" button continuously until you are back to the first screen.
You're done!

Is that what you wanted?

I'm a bit confused here. You can tune it by the TPS or Pressure Sensor right? So am I wired up to do that? In the wiring diagram it says AFM/Pressure Sensor, so is that the pressure sensor your talking about or is there something else that needs attaching with the extra wires that werent used during the install? I pretty much just installed it, set the basic things I needed to, and assumed it was the same for everything. What am I missing here?

Haha, nice. Yah no prob dude, that's what we're here for, to help, right?

Oh and I'd suggest doing this on the phone with her to help her more than just sending her directions or something.

Instead of using the TPS sensor to switch between the high and low maps, you could wire it into the stock pressure sensor. Both are 0-5 volt ouputs. Below a set amount of boost you are in the low map, above a certain boost is your high map, and between the two is averaged and extrapolated by the safc. I could be at 50 percent throttle and be in a vacuum or at 10 pounds of boost, which is why I prefer the pressure sensor over the TPS. If it's already wired into the TPS, don't worry about it for now, you can mess with it later if you aren't satisfied with how it's tuned.

Tell your mother to go to INITIALIZE and initilaize it. That means it will not be effecting anything at all. It'll be just like a stock ECU. Then you can make the settings when you are driving the car.

The picture of the SAfC in your post.......that car has problems. The idle is way to high. AF1 should be reading around .9%.

Why would she want to change the settings after its been turned on? Shouldn't I have her just turn the car on but not crank it and have her do the settings, then start it up? The pic I posted was just a random pic I found online.
