Post your Successfull S-AFC stories

Ok guy's. Last chance to save me some money and talk me out of a Haltech.

I'd like to hear from some people who are successfully running the Apexi S-AFC. In particular I'd like to hear of anyone
running an upgraded or even hybrid T04 w/ the S-AFC that hasn't popped an engine. This is your chance to convince me it's a safe way to go and save me $900+.

Thanks a million(or the $900 anyway's)

Scott

s-afc

DO NOT PUT THIS ON YOUR CAR!!! i have seen too many engines pop because of it, all it does is manipulate the stock sensors and when it catches up it will lean the car out and PPOOPP!!! 900.00 is cheap compared to a new engine!!!

Dude, S-AFC sucks. I got rid of it ASAP. Sold it and bought a used HKS PFC-FCON. This piggyback ecu works a lot better then the S-AFC, especially when you can find a used HKS FCON for the same price as a new S-AFC. Plus, I heard that the new HKS FCON don't have the dial like the older model so it's better to get a used one anyways.

I'm going to bite the bullet and buy the Haltech.

It just makes sense, and cents.

Talking

hey joejoe... even though its no rotary i own a 91turbo mr2, and i ran just a couple bolt ones, 2.5turbo back exhuast, no cat, ~15psi, intake dynoed 186rwhp, after ~15 pulls the best run had been 238rwhp...some good tuning and look im another 40+rwhp, unfortunatly dyno problems prevented FURTHER tuning...but to let you know...this super-afc just ever so recently STOPED working literally overnight, and my car would run, couldnt figure why and had it towed to my shop. later i found the superafc is notories for this...this has happened to 2 other ppl i know, one who had gone through 2 already...he is sick of it....

I'm saying..i got great results, but reliabilty, 4 different s-afc all went out within 10 months that all 4 of us bought them, BRAND new...so just take that into consideration!

but to be honest i would not piggy back my fc/fd...stand alone is what she shall recieve!

None of the ones I have set-up have popped an engine (only used on stock turbo's, though), nor has one failed that has been told to me, and I am sure I would hear of it.

Safc

joejoe if you can tune the safc with a wideband then you shouldnt have a problem. i met and talked and even read the one's who normally blow thier engines havent got it tuned with a wideband(most accurate a/f reading , they just tuned it with a air/fuel guage (narrowband signal not accurate at all when combined with a/f guages.) which for tuning purposes is totally useless . then what happens is pop to the engine
i have a turboII engine, tranny, ecu in my 1st gen gsl-se and TO4E turbo . my next thing on the list is to install the rtek v1.7 or v2.o chip from digital tuning along with my safc and tune with a wideband either at a dyno shop or one that i will purchase for permanent install in the rx7.
check out www.pocketlogger.com for the chip for the turboII
then check out http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=635792 for a good writeup on widebands at an affordable price

if you can afford the haltech then dont think twice go for it. i would too. you cant compare the flexibility the aftermarket ECU's with that of piggyback fuel comp. i myself cannot at this moment spend $1000 on a ecu so i must opt out the econo way. lol
