Question The Official Houston Mechanic Thread

I have a friend that needs an engine swap done to his Series 5 vert. He has a series 5 JDM Turbo2 front clip but needs someone to perform this swap. Does anyone have a mechanic that they would go to? A list would be nice.

Thanks in advance!

There isn't really any "shop" in town that can touch that job. (There are some theives, that might tell you otherwise)

You might want to talk to some club members like Logan or Fred who have done such swaps.

Is he wanting to completely put a T-II engine/turbo into a convertible? If so, the physical swap isn't that hard. The wiring harness just takes a little modification. What is he going to do about the transmission? Is it a T-II tranny also?

Yes, full swap. Like I said, he has a whole JDM front clip including the tranny, and driveshaft, just no rear end.

I've been out of the loop for awhile. I think I'll come to the next meeting wherever that may be.

Fred, I don't know if you remember me. I picked some stuff up at your house once. Did you ever get that huge turbo and two welded together intercoolers in that FC?

That car is in rotary heaven now. I still have the engine/turbo/intercooler but haven't done anything with them. I've debated putting them in my 1st gen since it has a standalone ecu in it now and I can tune it. We'll see. Too busy right now.

Where are some good shops in or around the Houston or Austin areas? Want good shop for local drop off to get a street port done and a place that's pretty good at tuning these things and familiar with Rexs.

Support my crack... I mean racing habit. I can't do porting, but I know a bajillion people that can do a better job than I ever could. Built a lot of race engines, most of them have even survived a while!

Do you have the engine apart? If so, I can help you port them out.

BDC would be the best though in the area. His ports kick ***. You also have Alamo Rotary in San Antonio, and Gothom in Dallas.

Don't have the motor pulled apart yet or anything, just getting ready to have it done and was getting some ideas on where I could go to do it.

For basic repairs and a most otherthings, John kicks ***.
The only shop in Austin I take my car to is his.
I've never seen him do a port job or tune a RE, but the guys and him can do anything else you need.
