I have a friend that needs an engine swap done to his Series 5 vert. He has a series 5 JDM Turbo2 front clip but needs someone to perform this swap. Does anyone have a mechanic that they would go to? A list would be nice.

Thanks in advance!

There isn't really any "shop" in town that can touch that job. (There are some theives, that might tell you otherwise)

You might want to talk to some club members like Logan or Fred who have done such swaps.

Is he wanting to completely put a T-II engine/turbo into a convertible? If so, the physical swap isn't that hard. The wiring harness just takes a little modification. What is he going to do about the transmission? Is it a T-II tranny also?

Do you have a number where I can reach them? You can PM them to me.

Yes, full swap. Like I said, he has a whole JDM front clip including the tranny, and driveshaft, just no rear end.

Fred = rotarygod... he already responded in this thread.

Logan = missing in action.. online also known as SirRupertHobo.

My recommendation come to a club meeting and make some freinds who can help.

I've been out of the loop for awhile. I think I'll come to the next meeting wherever that may be.

Logan is around. He lives on the same side of town as I do and is only a few minutes away.

Fred, I don't know if you remember me. I picked some stuff up at your house once. Did you ever get that huge turbo and two welded together intercoolers in that FC?

That car is in rotary heaven now. I still have the engine/turbo/intercooler but haven't done anything with them. I've debated putting them in my 1st gen since it has a standalone ecu in it now and I can tune it. We'll see. Too busy right now.

hondasuck 05-14-05 04:54 PM

Where are some good shops in or around the Houston or Austin areas? Want good shop for local drop off to get a street port done and a place that's pretty good at tuning these things and familiar with Rexs.

ratboy 02-02-06 10:19 AM

I dont know if they do porting but they've been doing any work I cant do on my 85 SE for 2 years now. John was a award winnning mechanic with mazda for many years. Highly reccomended...

well MZM willdo porting ,but they only port NEW! housings. There is Maz Max here too. Dallas wouldbe your best bet b/c BDC does awsome port work up there. He charges 400 I belive. Protech Perfromance in Austin as well. Or yuo could pay me to do it;)

Klar 02-02-06 10:35 AM

Just go for BDC.

christaylor 02-02-06 11:50 AM

Support my crack... I mean racing habit. I can't do porting, but I know a bajillion people that can do a better job than I ever could. Built a lot of race engines, most of them have even survived a while!

dantheman 02-02-06 11:51 AM

Do you have the engine apart? If so, I can help you port them out.

BDC would be the best though in the area. His ports kick ass. You also have Alamo Rotary in San Antonio, and Gothom in Dallas.

Turbo II-FB 02-02-06 12:01 PM

hey dantheman. Do you havea blck FD with altezas? and wheels?

rx7idgit 02-02-06 02:22 PM

Don't have the motor pulled apart yet or anything, just getting ready to have it done and was getting some ideas on where I could go to do it.

Turbo II-FB 02-02-06 03:38 PM

just a FYI I havea s5 t2 engine I'mselling the short block. IT has 15k on it and its been ported agressively ,and it was built witn new housings ,and its running 3mm seals allmazda parts I'm asking 1700 for local pick up. It was built by a professionalshop to taht speicalizes in rotarys

For basic repairs and a most otherthings, John kicks ass.
The only shop in Austin I take my car to is his.
I've never seen him do a port job or tune a RE, but the guys and him can do anything else you need.

Nope, I sold my Black FD. It had stock rims and tails. I drive a white FB now.

MisterMatt 02-04-06 11:06 AM
