My project FD: Progress so far.
I thought I'd share the progress of my FD with you guys and gals.
I recently picked up a 93' touring from Bill that was involved in an engine fire. My plans are to completely bring it back to life.
This is how she looked when I first got it home.

Shortly after receiving it, I had the car towed up to my buddy's paint and body shop for a complete make-over. I'm going with the factory SSM (silverstone metallic) as I've always loved this color. In fact, my first FD was this color. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

While the car has been out for paint, I took the extra time and effort to clean up some of the drivetrain parts that are currently off the car. To many this seems pointless as these parts are rarely seen. However, to me, it's comforting to know that they are all cleaned up and looking new, if not better.

Here is the transmission after 4 hours of scrubbing with basic engine degreaser and Simple Green.

Finished with a fresh coat of paint. (High temp 500; silver metallic)

Along with the tranny, I completed the diff as well.
After about an hour of scrubbing.

And, the finished product. I painted the rear iron gloss black and the front cover silver. It's not perfect, but it will sufice.

I don't have any photos yet, but I also cleaned up the ppf (power plant frame), cleaned and repainted the diff mount (black), driveshaft, axils, and misc chassis braces. I'll get photos of those soon.

I don't have the car back from paint, yet. But, my painter has been sending me teaser photos of the progress. Seems to be coming along great.
Here are some photos.

Thanks, guys.
Well, obviously the next big plan is a motor. As easy as it would be for me to get a jspec long block, I'd like to find a USDM 13BREW... we'll see. I hear the wiring is a bitch with the jspec ones.

Very sweet rebuild.
Did the interior remain unaffected by the engine fire?
Any idea how much your buddy would've charged for the paint / body work without the buddy-discount?
It's coming along real nice... good luck!

I have no idea on the price difference... sorry.
Thanks for the compliments.
UPDATE
I went up to the shop to look at the car and it looks amazing! Here is how she looks right now.

It's just about ready and I should be able to bring it back home this week. The only thing he has left to do is the sideskirts (Racing Beat/Knight Sports), and align all the body parts. I'll snap some photos once I get it home.

Eric, I'm not sure how much power Brian put down. I did a search a while back and show a conservative tune in the high 300's-low 400's. However, that could have changed after more tuning. It will be a little while before I bring her out as she still needs a heart. Eventually I will, though!
I remember the first time I cleaned up a tranny. She hated being taken off the street.
Looks great Marshall, one of these times when I'm back from College Station I'm going to have to come by and see it!
