TX Misc Track Thread

Alright here's a thread for those of us that like to track our cars and/or want to talk about anything dealing with track/racing/tech/etc. Also a great place to talk about upcoming events to compare calendars and see if we can end up doing some of the same events.

Here's some pics from when I was down at Road Atlanta a couple weeks ago. If anyone ever gets the chance you really need to try it out, definitely my favorite track so far.

We've already got a couple of us doing the BMW CCA event next month, anyone else planning on going? I've been looking at some of the groups around here that run some of the events, how is Drivers Edge? I've heard mixed things about them from guys at the few track events around here I've been to so far, figured I'd ask my fellow rotorheads, I know they'd never lead me astray :P (except in the lounge, it's every man for himself there lol)

Great idea Justin.
We need a thread like this, to light the fire on tracking the RX13 and spanking some serious ***, rather than drinking and driving on public roads.
I am down for it and would like to plan to do Road Atlanta some time soon.
We can rent a towing truck/platform to transport the RX13 and we have no fear of breaking down and not able to return.LOL

See me waving good bye to the Porsche Turbo(fingerless gloves).

Awesome, glad to see this thread kicked back up. Definitely a great place to keep up with track dates, discussions, pics, etc.

Just for any that are interested, I'm doing the Eagles Canyon event this weekend and the Apex/RUF event on the 22nd at MSR (lol, gonna get my *** spanked by some exotics) if anyone is doing them as well.

Baron, yep I'm already planning another trip to RA towards fall, waiting to see which NASA event all the guys I know are planning on doing. LMAO, poor marshall, maybe one day he'll have a FD that's picture worthy

Let us know when you do man, definitely want to see you out at the track. I'm usually doing at least one every month.

it's alright I guess, but the true essence of these cars can only be captured on the track. that is what they were made for after all. just wait, me and robert will get you on the track one of these days lol.

Petition for the name change is in the process of being filed.
RX7 name is, no more, it's old school.
The new name is, The RX13.

I have yet to do autox, lol every time one comes up it gets canceled for the weather. But I already know just from being out there and seeing it that I won't enjoy it like I do road courses. Get so much more time on the track and actually get to test the limits of the car, tires, brakes, etc. I need to do at least 2 a year though to keep my Mazda Motorsports account.

@ ROD, yeah I'm working on getting a camera and mount, I definitely learn a lot from watching too. you get to critique yourself a lot and see what you can do to fix it next time.

Cool

These are the 4 major organizations, that hold DE's events at the different tracks in our area and some out, like TDE.

The Drivers Edge (TDE) events:
http://www.thedriversedge.net/02_tracks.htm
IMHO: 2 days, expensive, crowded grids, many different cars, good crowd

Aex Driving Academy Events:
http://www.apexdrivingacademy.com/schedule.htm
IMHO: 1 day, inexpensive, never crowded and cool group

The "SNOB" Porsche Club of America Maverick Region (North Texas):
http://mav.pca.org/Events/DE.asp
IMHO: 2 days, mid priced, crowded most times, lots of SNOBS

BMW CCA Lone Star Chapter:
https://www.motorsportreg.com/index.cfm/event/dashboard
IMHO: 2 days mid priced, not crowded, great free snacks/drinks and best crowd

there's also

http://www.motorsportsreg.com/
-just search your area and it will tell you different events coming up from various organizations (usually for the smaller groups like BMW, PCA, other not as well known ones)

http://www.autocross.com/texasregion/
-if you are interested in autox

http://www.nasaproracing.com/
-unfortunately SCCA is really really lacking in their PDX department so you won't find any around here, but NASA (which is way better IMO) runs several each year. By far the best organization I've ran with and will always be a member. if there's an event nearby that they're running I'll be at it. can't say enough about how great they run everything, the instructors, the classes, all fun and professional at the same time. best learning experience there is for a beginner.
