GEEZ plots from yesterday's autocross...

Well, after my pathetic showing yesterday, I finally got around to pulling the data...

Luckily, it mostly confirmed what I already knew- I took the downhill right hander entirely too slowly on the first lap (magenta lines). I never got comfortable with how fast I could take this corner and still *make* the hard right hander. And since screwing this corner up put you in a terrible position for the "box" going back uphill, I never really pushed it. And it showed. Usage in the this 3-second secton was only about 70%. Blech.

Now, the Geez box also confirmed my previous epiphany: I don't accelerate through the slalom if I pass the cone on the passenger side. I'll flog the heck out of it on the driver's side, but I'm way too timid on the passenger side.... (Blue lines)...

Overall, I got beat pretty badly out there... Damon got me by at least half a second in raw time which will be much worse when it's PAXed out.

so how does the GEEZ box deal with camber.. That 1st area highlighted by teh purple lines was downhill and off camber, so I figure the total "usage" availbel in that area woudl be significantly less than in other areas.. How does that work?

It can't tell the difference in traction on a specific section of the track. It can only normalize to the track sustained peak (which, in the case of a right hand corner, is 1.2G). So yes, technically I was unable to corner as hard there as I could at, say, the top half of the loop and the box perceives this as less "usage".

But here's how I know for sure I was going too slow: the second lap around is nice and blue... So it *can* be done, just that I didn't...

Haven't pulled my runs yet but I'll add it to the Geez! thread when I do; probably tonight. I hit the last cone in the box twice by entering too fast. Other than that the power was going down really well but I think I never did cook through that slalom as fast as the Hoosiers were capable.

umrswimr were you getting way out to the left of that wall of cones before turning into that downhill right hander? I was easily a few feet over the chalk through there to give me lots more room to come around.

Car was supposed to go to Martin yesterday but he had a personal injury and spent some time in the emergency room rather than coming to work yesterday morning. He's ok. Probably will be another week now before I drop the car off.

Are you referring to the part right around the two magenta lines? Swing outside, then dive hard right into the downhill U turn?

I honestly don't recall how far outside the wall I got as I was always looking well into the corner by that point. Eric might have some pictures that will give us some indication...

Yeah. IIRC that 2 cone slalom had a right side entry. First time around I would enter and then pretty much ignore the second cone of the slalom; all I'd do is dodge the first cone and cut hard across its back side so I could setup wide to the left for the next turn. This let me stay especially wide and gave more room to rotate the car all the way around and accelerate towards the box.

The second time around I wouldn't be near as wide because the corner was much shorter as you headed to the big slalom, so there I would go through the 2 cone slalom staying tight on the second cone and rotate into the corner. Feather the throttle as the car dropped down the hill and then stand on it as soon as it began to settle.

That Geez! thing is the coolest thing I have seen. I emailed them about Mac compatibility and if it would work with my Sony Clie. Unfortunately, they don't. However, they support seems excellent as they responded in less than 4 hours!

Geez data between umrswimr and I is pretty similar. I'm going to do some time splits over in the Geez! thread and figure out where we made/lost time against eachother. My fastest run was a 51.3 (had a cone. Fastest clean run was 51.5) and David's was a 52.0.

umrswimr's stats on left, mine on right. Usage and scores is one thing, but competition is won by lap time. I could have terrific usage scores and yet get creamed by my competitors because I didn't take the quickest route from Point A to Point B...
