It was time for the yearly grind of re-installing my hi-flow cat and inserting my PFC emissions passing map. That was the easy part.
The hard part is finding a station that can properly test our FDs.
The first shop was out of forms for OBD1 cars.
The second shop was on lock down for some type of violation.
The third shop only does OBD2 cars.
The forth shop has the new pickup that is suppose to work near the battery.
It would not work. The tech told me that he tried it on a few other FDs and they would not work either. I took it from him and put it by the ignitor, and it worked and I passed.
I hate having to be a mechanic for a mechanic and still have to pay!

I think I'll just move to anouther county! Geez what a PITA. Of course my FD passed with flying colors the last two times it actually had an inspection. The kid at the inspection station insisted that I demonstrate the brakes with a rapid acceleration and honk my horn. He refused to let me pay him.
Unfortunately me engine let go a few months later, a week before I was informed I was being laid off. I took a 10k pay cut to have a job two years ago and I'm still recovering from that. My FD sadly sits in my driveway awaiting heart transplant.

Chuck, you don't have your airpump any more, right? (not concerned about visual myself, just the sniffer) Trying to figure if I should be figuring out a way to get an air supply back there.
If you are worried about air supply, just borrow a O2 tank, like a 1lb bottle for the portable cutting torch and hook that into the exhaust before the cat. The air injected by the air pump is mostly just putting 20% O2 into the exh for the Cat to work better. So i am going to put in 100%O2 but i will burn the Cat out quickly.
It also dilutes the exh too, but i think the extra heat will burn the leftovers.

They finally got the system working again!
I still have my air pump. That was why I bought the A-Spec GT35R short runner turbo kit. It has room for the air pump if you make a custom bracket for it. I could have used a GM air pump (for testing) but it is not made for constant use. My pump is always working and helps keep the exhaust smell nicer even without the cat.
They do not care about a visual except they sometimes try to find the cat.
Being a small hi-flow, they almost have to craw under the car to see it.
That is my only pleasure! HAHA!

LOL. I fear the year I will have to bribe someone to pass my car for emissions.
Does TX have a law that after X amount of years past a cars production date it doesnt have to pass emissions anymore?

Yeppers, at 25 years old, the car only has to demonstrate its brakes, horn and lighting systems...if you have a back-up light, that's gotta be working also....even for a 39 year old Firebird.
This was the last year I had to worry for my gray '83, Furious...

Or, you could move to a non-emissions county.
I used to get my FD checked at the local oil change place. I would pull in, tell them what I needed and they would just hand me a tag. Nothing more then that.
Here in Bryan, I pull in, they check the blinkers, lights, horn and I am out the door! I hope that we don't ever have to do a real eval some day. I know for sure I won't pass. Flames out the exaust clean it up right? Thats the excess hydrocarbons burning off I think.

my 94 has a ways to go. Bexar has no emissions but I fear soon since its growing so fast.
my last inspection went this
them-"holy **** I never see this car yours looks great!" rest of guys leave the pit area and come over
me-"thanks"
them"everything work?"
me-"yes it does"
them -"alright paperwork is being done now"
im sure most have had that happen, state inspections are such a joke/money maker for the state

Where did you get that? It is still 25 yrs - specifically any vehicle older than 24 years.

I have my older cars registered as antiques, tags are good for 5(?) yrs and no safety inspections.
