Creating an autox event (help!)

Hello! Relatively new FD rx-7 owner in west Texas (abilene). I'm military, and was originally stationed by St. Louis. I feel as though I was spoiled there as I lived 20 minutes from Gateway, which did track days and autocross often.

Here in abilene there is an 1/8 mile drag strip, and not much else in terms of racing. I was hoping someone had some experience setting up an autocross event, and could tell me what goes into making it work. I'm not afraid of hard work, and would really like to make this happen.

Thanks for the help!

Well I'd think you should first have a place in mind, like a parking lot and talk to its management to see if they are willing to let you use it.

Second, pick a date and spread the word and see the interest you can raise and an idea of people attending (-30% of people cancelling)

Third...set it up!

I think you should go and attend one and talk to the organizers, they probably have many tips for you to start an event.

I've been to plenty of events in the St. Louis areas, and talked to the people that ran those. I was more hoping for specifics of insurance and things like that.

Look up Drivers Edge. They do DE's at some of the local road courses. After you go road course, you won't hanker for autox too much. Yes it's a 2.5 hour drive to DFW, but think of that as time not spent course working, and you actually get track time.

If you think about it, the better you auto cross, the less driving you get to do.

I agree with you, and will most likely be doing DE in Cresson because obviously road course > autocross. However, it is a two hour drive, and once a month. In the meantime it would be nice to do something like autox, since I'm not a huge fan of drag racing. Also, I think it would be beneficial for all of the cars around the abilene area to (re)introduce autocross, not just rx7's. Btw I'm the only FD here lol
