I'm not so sad now to know I won't be able to go. For a track rat that's a terrible price for track time plus it's lead follow. For people who have never been on track before or only once or twice that might make more sense.

Chris,
Thank you for your interest in the CorkSport Texas Mazda Showdown!
The details have finally been worked out for the event being held on November 3, 2012 from 9am-6pm at Harris Hill Raceway located at 2840 Harris Hill Rd. San Marcos, TX 78666!
The event, sponsored by CorkSport, Texas Speed Demons, and Roger Beasley Mazda will include a lead/follow track day, a drifting demonstration, show & shine, and EMS Powered will be on hand to provide dyno runs, three pulls for $50.00.
There will be no entrance fee to attend the event, however the track day will be $25 pre-paid and $35 the day of the event for a 5 lap run. This is primarily a track day, but attendees are encouraged to come show off their cars and hang at the track with fellow Mazda enthusiasts for an informal show & shine.
To register for the event, please go to our event page at CorkSport Texas Mazda Showdown and to pre-pay for your time on the track, please go to Harris Hills Raceway Track Day. We will accept payment day of the event for $35, space and time permitting.
If you have questions, please don't hesitate to email me at gwynne@corksport.com.
We look forward to seeing you at the track!

I can understand that. I think the event is more to get people with Mazdas out to give them a taste. For the hardcore people, it's more like a hangout day.

This is a pretty common format for building customer relations and getting people's feet wet and for that it typically works well. I just had thought when it was first announced that it was going to be a Mazda oriented track day for track rats which was a worthwhile reason to make the trek down from Dallas to H2R since I haven't been there yet. But due to the lead follow only nature there really isn't any large draw for people out of town to come out to even hang out. Which is why I made my original post.

I think it's more to help cover the cost of the event, the track/staff cannot operate for free. Last year they had free breakfast/lunch too so maybe it's paying for that too. We hardly ever have any decent events around this area anymore so support it if you can.
