The open track day for $85 is on Friday, June 1, 2007. The event on June 3rd is a points race for the GBRRS. If you want decent track time, go on June 1st. If you want to watch some good racing and dink around on the track for a few minutes, go on the track on June 3rd.
You'll need a helmet, a car that passes tech, and $85.
Tech will check for excessive play in the steering wheel, properly working pedals, proper throttle return, tightened wheels, battery mounted solidly, all loose objects inside the car removed, proper seatbelts, and your windows must be down. This will be at the bare minimum for what they'll check for. If you've ever been tech'd at an autocross, I'm sure this will be pretty much the same.
I'm not sure what specifications for helmets Mike will use.
I have to work Friday, unfortunately.
Sunday, June 3rd, has both the race at NPR, and there is also an autocross at Belle Chase.

So it looks like the Road Coarse on Sunday is open for lapping for an Hour and a Half while the Road Race breaks for lunch. That should those of us time to get several laps in depending on how many people are in line etc....
The Drag strip is open as well but I don't see the schedule for that listed. Anyway, should be a fun event to attend. No way I can get away on Friday for all day lapping

If they're going to be running the drag strip, as well, then they are either going to be doing that after the event or the hour and a half "open track" will only be on the "Peanut Course" and not the full 1.8 mile road course.
Unless, they split that 1.5 hours in half and ran the road course for ~40 minutes and then the strip for ~40 minutes. Although, I doubt that the strip will be prepped too well.
I guess you'll just have to wait and see!

Alright, just talked to Mike Poupart who helped organize this event. He said that the Drag Strip will NOT be open as they wanted. However, the hour and a half "Open Track" at lunch is the FULL Road Coarse but for Touring only. Again the FULL road coarse will be open for Touring which in NO PASSING allowed.
He says there were times during previous events where only 3 cars went out during the "OPEN TRACK" session and there were times when there were tons of people lined up.
The rest of the event is pretty much a spectator event where those guys will be going at it on the race track.
I'm still game. Drop a reply if you think you can make it.
