XS sucks!
XS sucks!
I am the only one, or are these guys total as*holes! They act like they are working on top secret miltary projects or something. I buy a turbo kit from them and now they won't tell me what size the turbo is in the kit they sold me! Like I am going to prototype it and sell it or something... give me a break! Its not like I can't take it into any turbo shop, (turbonetics is a 20 minute drive from my house) and have them look at it and tell me what it is, but hey, I am your f**king customer, save me the trouble! I know its not me because I was talking to another guy that had the same experience with them.
Now I have to send them my PFC for mapping! F**k you! I will do it myself. Apexi really needs to get another Power XL authorized dealer. These guys know they have a corner on a market and they think they are ******* Microsoft! So what if your buddy works for XS or whatever, its just crappy business.

I am satisfied, I just think they are a joke... and I like to yell and scream... and curse. They are not Greddy or HKS, they are just a small outfit that thinks they are big. Hey its cool. I mean, whatever floats thier boat. They want to think they have some secret recipe... you gotta be kidding me... but whatever... I will have myself a good laugh on my way to sleep tonight.
In defense of XS, they do a ton of r&d on new projects. They spend time and major money on tuning of new products, they are usually the first with new turbo kits, and were the reason we even have the power fc in the u.s. I agree that it's bad business to be arrogant and all of that, but not releasing information is definately smart. In the import world, especially in southern california, everyone and their mom is trying to copy hard work from others and capitalize on it. Personally if they treated me badly, I would never give them my business, but you can get your money's worth in tuning for your power FC there. Sorry you had a bad experience, but it's the result of so many people that have bad business ethics.

I understand this, and these are good points, but they did not design this turbo, they just ordered it to their specs. This is not rocket science or something that anyone can not find out on their own. They are just being jerks. And that's ok. Maybe they think I am a jerk or they don't owe me this. Again, whatever works for them. I just don't like or feel I deseve to be yanked around. I am not a competitor, or a crook, I am a customer. And what do they have to lose by telling me? If it was some secret, which it is not, then now where will I have to go to find out? To one of their competitors, thus defeating the whole purpose of not telling me. This is why I am laughing, because it is so stupid.
But again, whatever. I guess they are so busy and have so much money they don't need any more.

Umm, if you're not satisfied with their products, why did you choose to buy it? You can always return it.
Why don't you go out and request your own specs on a turbo. Then, while you're there...might as well get a new manifold, DP, and countless other fuel upgrades. Then, after you miraculously piece everything together, why don't you dyno tune it to see if it actually MAKES some sort of power.
You can call it the "machinehead single turbo kit".

I have a job, thanks...
Gee, I bought a Mazda RX7, they put a lot of r&d into it, they don't mind telling me that it has a 2 rotor 13 REW in it.
I buy some nice speakers, again, lots of r&d, I get the specs with the speakers...
I buy a kit from XS, but the turbo is a mystery, and eveyine thinks this is acceptable?

Yeah it's pretty sad when you don't get to know about a product that you paid 3,000 of your hard earned dollars for.. And about the R&D, it's not like everyone has the ability to start building turbos in their back yard... I still don't understand why they wouldn't tell you, maybe the person you talked to just didn't know the specs and was a lazy *** and didn't feel like looking it up...
When you buy a turbo kit from XS-Engineering you get all the components to perform to your motor's specs. Everything is suposed to fit and perform to the optimum.
I just got off the phone with Dave at KDR. My T04e kit is installed. He said it was the best fitting nicest single turbo install he ever did. He loved the kit.

I could concievably find out what the specs are for the turbo, probably in a forum such as this one, and instead of spending all my money at XS, where I buy not only the equipment but THEIR R&D work to get a good combo, I steal their R&D and get the parts cheap and make my own. It's a subtle form of intellectual-property theft.
If I were truly unscrupulous, I could take the combo, order up parts to make 10 turbos and sell them much cheaper than XS could because I don't have to worry about R&D. HOWEVER, I also don't know the full whys and hows as to how and why that combo got arrived at, so I'd be useless for tech support, and would be ripping off customers as well as XS.
You can usually tell who does Reasearch & Development, and who does Ripoff & Duplicate... reminds me a LOT of the bike industry (well designed products, and the cheap Taiwanese/Chinese ripoffs that give the original products a bad name) and a story about a Honda shop that borrowed a set of ITR cams, never returned them, and a little while later came out with their own line of VTEC cams...

I'm not saying anything on the entire theft issue ... but is no big deal to make a cast copy a manifold. It is not that expensive to do either. I wonder what crispeed things of all of this ... if I remember correctly he makes kits and he gives out specs. Just food for thought.
They are like the soup ****. Ask a question and "No soup for you!"
I have had the chance to call them a few times and its like pulling teeth everytime. I would rather have a root canal than have to get any info other than a price from them. Even then, its like a burden for them to have to talk to you. You think once you purchase a product you are on the same side but I guess that is not always the case.
I know I am not the only one that feels the same way.
But its all good. Its a small world and maybe someday I will have to opportunity to thank them for the great service.

The rest of the world goes to a turbgo manufacturer or dealer, says I want a .72 front with a 66-1 blade, a Q trim exhaust blade and a 1.22 exhaust housing with an oil cooled ter centre, they then get a manifold made up and attach the aforementioned turbo to it.
We then get our fuel system sorted with larger lines, pumps injectors etc, add an aftermarket ECU and tune the car. The car then makes 500rwhp on 22psi and runs 11.1 @ 125 with very rich mixtures.
Get over the phrase "bolt on" and save yourself some damn money!
There are shops here in the US that you can order what ever kind of turbo set up you want all you have to do is call, give them the specs you want, your Visa # and you address and Wola a turbo at your doorstep.
The only prob would be getting a manifold but we're talking about the turbo.
Anyway, at least you like the kit.

That sucks. Unfortunately I have mine but my engine is getting rebuilt and ported so its just sitting there.
I want to make clear that when I started this thread I am half joking and half pissed. Really I don't think its a big deal. It seems petty, and trivial to me that they will not tell me but I understand that is up to them and I imagine it is common practice in this business.
As far as being the only authorized Power XL, well, more power to them I guess. At least they do a good job. I still think some competition would be nice but I guess there is nobody out there that wants to compete... or Apexi likes it that way.

LOL! i find this thread highly amusing. Perhaps XS is trying to make us RX7 owners look unintelligent? Imagine if you will:
You are at your favorite dragstrip or SCCA event. Someone comes up to and compliments you on your single turbo kit.
Stranger-"wow, nice run. What kind of setup are you running?"
You--"Its a single turbo kit from XS Engineering."
Stranger-"Nice Kit. So what are the specs on the turbo."
You--(slight hesitation)" Um, not really sure. It's a XS TO4(insert final prefix here). "
Stranger-"Nice. Whats the A/R.? Compressor, etc?"
You--(looking less witty by the second)" I dont know. They won't tell me. I guess they could tell me, but then they'd have to kill me."
Now i dont know about you but if i drop 3 large on a turbo kit, when someone comes up to me and starts shooting questions like that, i dont want to sound like a retard. Ive been on the other side of this conversation way to many times to take notice of how much people look like an *** when they don't have a clue what is under their hood.

Another good point that I hadn't even thought of... thanks.
I will know what exactly the turbo is before it goes on my car, there is no question about that. Its just a matter of a small trip across town to have it inspected. Its also a inconvienience that would have easily been avoided with a little common courtesy on XS's part. I mean how hard is it to look through a few invoices? That is assuming that these are custom tailored to each customers car, which I hightly doubt.
How does that saying go? One unhappy customer does more damage than 10 happy ones can cancel out. And all for what? Because you are either lazy or paranoid or both.

The reason XS wont tell you the specs of the turbo is because you bought the kit through me. I dont think thats a good reason not to tell you the specs, but thats the way they work. I meant to ask them the specs on Friday, but I forgot. I will find out what you need on monday so we can clear this thread up.
