Winter Goals: Turning up the boost, my two choices

So, I've finally gotten a little bored with 15 psi and i've got the itch for more power (don't we all?). I've been mulling over a couple options, here are what I've come up with:

1). Methanol Injection, From what i've read, I think 22-24 psi with meth and pump 93 is a realistic goal

Pros: Not terribly expensive, Methanol is cheap and easily obtainable, good friend is already running a meth system in his FD so i have his support

Cons: Adds a lay of complexity to an already complicated system, need safeguards to prevent high boost if meth is not working or empty

2). E85/E98, Again, only what i have ready, but i think i could run 20 psi on E85 and 25 psi on E98 safely.

Pros: As simple as straight gas (no need to run an additional system), E85 station less than 1 mile from my house, E85 pumps popping up all over Indiana

Cons: would probably need bigger/more injectors, exhaust smell is worse than regular rotary, ethanol compatibility with metals/rubber, would need a completely new tune on the car.

Race gas really just isn't an option for me because of its high price and I also want to stay away from leaded fuel.

So what do you think?

Did you decide against water injection already?

If i'm going to build a water system, it only makes sense to take it one step further and go with methanol.

Agreed.

Looks like you're in a bit of a pickle. My vote is for methanol injection... mainly because it's a (at least in the rotary world) cheap mod that is gaining ground and will have lots of support.

Either way, it sounds like you're in a pretty good win/win situation.

I'm leaning towards meth injection just for the support that is out there for it. It has been around awhile and is taking off like crazy now.

Tuning a pump gas w/ meth will be a ton easier than tuning a pure E85/98 setup. For one with the meth injection i'll be rich to start with, with ethanol i'll be crazy lean to start with, i may as well just throw my maps away and start from scratch.

I say go meth. I was speaking with bdc the other day, and he had his 60-1 maxxed out at 26 psi, making pulls to redline in 3rd and 4th gear, with peak EGTs at 1300 degrees F! This was on pump gas plus meth, with a stock (!) ic on his fc.

That tiny little top mount? That seems a little dangerous.

Yeah, BDC knows his ****, though. :P

I'm ordering a kit from the guy who BDC got his AI from in a couple of weeks.. you should check him out if you haven't already: Julio Don of www.alkycontrol.com.

Apparently his kits are much better quality than lots of other kits out there for AI/MI.. they are specifically made for this purpose, unlike many kits which were originally made for WI and are now being sold as potential AI/MI solutions.

I think he's trying to prove a point, that it can be safely done even with an intercooler the size of a ham sammich

It makes sense considering guys running straight meth don't even use an intercooler.
