Will an aftermarket FD Manifold Fit on FC?

if not what interferes?

i know these manifiolds are supposed to be crap but with some gussetting i think i will be better off than spending $400+ on a custom one.

anyway the point of my question is that i'd rather buy the FD model and take advantage of the divided (and better looking) manifold

FC: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33742

FD: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

any info?

thanks

First off.... buy one quality manifold once for $600~400 or buy a low quality manifold for $150 twice, or pay $200 to strengthen or mod to work....... not to mention hastle of pulling it off if it does go bad.

ok, my rants over... sort of

the FD manifold will work on a FC IF:

You mod the manifold ex: cut off flanges and reweld at an angle

OR You use a On-Center turbine housings.

Both options SUCK. On-Center turbine housings only come in open valute (non-divided) and spool slower and make less top end power verses a tang housing of same A/R so the whole buying the manifold because its divided is negated (not to mention those manifolds do NOT have equal length runners). The whole "cause its dirt cheap" is negated because A: you'll need to mod it to work or B: most likely it won't last the life of your motor unless your a very bad engine builder and or bad tuner and you'll need to buy another "cheap" manifold because you don't want to re-fab all your oil/water lines and your down pipe and intercooler piping when the first one failed. Do they all fail? nope, I've seen roughly 50/50 of people who had them break and others who have been running them for a little over a year no probs. Another bad feature of those manifolds are the horrible converge area were the runners meat the turbo flange.

So what are you left with? bling factor.......

Be cheap and get the HKS cast manifold (#50 new, or $250 used, there for sale EVERY WERE), its bomb proof and works well.

Better yet, HKS cast divided, XS Engineering divided cast, SR Motor Sports divided cast, or any reputable shop tubular one HKS, FEED, etc. ($450~500 NEW) most likely will need to be ordered.

Even better yet, make one out of thick walled Stainless on your own or have someone competent do it.

With all that said and done its wont work on the 2nd gen. the waistgate flange along with a waistgate on it will interfere with the fire wall making it impossible to mount them on the car unless you beat the hell out of the fire wall or cut and reweld the flang. If your already looking on ebay just wait until one of the hks or greddy manifolds pop up again.

And where do you find these new divided cast or tubular manifolds? I hardly see any for sale, just the HKS cast undivided one. Hook me up with some good links for these divided manifolds please !!!

thanks for the info...

i may attempt to make another manifold myself. (this time out of stainless) i underestimated the effects of oxidation at the elevated temps a man. sees and now find myself with a 2yr old mild steel POS its just flaking away

moral of story: dont use mild steel
