whos running a single with stock (non ported) motor?

I just got a mazda reman done. (warranty took care of it) I am thinking about going single in maybe 6 months or so, but I would like to know whether it is safe to do so on a non ported motor? Anyone out there running this?
Thanks.

My friends had a T78 on his stock FD motor wth 68,xxx miles on it and it lasted all of 10 days until it blew the rear rotor. Now, wether the two are related, I couldn't tell you....it could be, or it could have been just timing. Who knows?

I don't think a turbocharger can cause the demise of an engine, its usually the engines' owner/operator.

I think a stock ported motor will do fine with a single.. porting just opens up more air for more top end power.. it doesnt really make it more reliable for more boost or anything. Just make sure you break your engine in properly and make sure your air/fuel mixture is right at the boost your going to run.. and im sure you will be fine..

i am running my single on the stock engine. i had mine rebuilt before i put the new turbo on. so hopefully everything goes alright. as long as tuning is there i dont think you will have a problem. i think you should have all the mods to go along with the new engine and turbo...ie radiator, ecu and so on and so forth...dont half *** anything and it should work.

just be easy on the boost. most ported motors use the stock 2mm seals anyways.

I ran a stock reman with a single turbo for over a year with no problems what so ever. (sold the car since, and still no problems) I even ran 10's with it. Very reliable, you just won't make power over 7800 or so.

Yeah I ran my standard S4 turbo motor with a T66 @ 16PSI making 400RWHP on pump gas and an enrichment system for over 2 years and it went fine even after several sessions out on the circuit. Though when it did die there wasn't much left that didn't need replacing I couldn't believe how much better it when after the rebuild and a port job ........... that extra air sure helps !!!!
