who has the rx6b?

Im just curious as to how you can tell the two apart, is it clearly marked rx6b? and what type of numbers do these put up? do these bolt onto the normal rx6 manifold?

it's only available in japan. You can obviously tell, the RX6a, has a puny exhaust side, while the RX6B has a much much bigger one.

i thought the difference was that one kept the airpump and one did not.

There is more than one difference in the kits. My understanding is that both the exhaust turbine is bigger and you can keep the air pump.

I have the RX6A and I can keep the airpump. The RX6B just has a bigger exhaust side to my understanding..

so is the b the one that removes the airpump? and A is smaller so that you can keep the airpump?

Hmm... it sounds like you can keep the air pump with the later A kits, too. For those that can keep the air pump, is your turbo in a different place than mine, shown here?:

More pics here.

I haven't tried it, but I am quite sure that mine would not fit with the air pump. The runners on my exhaust manifold are about a foot long, and they swoop up and forward a bit from the exhaust ports. I saw a pic of another manifold from A'PEXi that was shorter and didn't swoop up as much.

apexkw, it seems like the ability to keep the air pump or not in not an indicator of which turbo is in the kit. The RX6A/RX6B just refers to the turbo itself as far as I know. There may be other differences in the manifold and/or maybe the downpipe, too, but I am not sure.

i have the original kit. there is no way the airpump would fit. my airfilter also goes in a totally different spot. it sits in most of the space that the airpump occupied. my filter is almost touching the coolant housing. and my intercooler pipes run along the left side of your intake cone.

Info on RX-6B

Here is the part number for the rx-6b

rx-6b oil cooled: 702-Z720
rx-6b water cooled: 702-Z730

The larger one you are talking about is the AX kit.

The rx-6b lets you keep the air pump in the Jspec car. On the US spec car, the filter hits the A/C line. It only fits the air pump if you change the intake pipe or take out the A/C line.

I have compared part numbers from the US apex price guide and the Japanese apex price guide to come to this conclusion.

I always thought that the RX6a part number was TCW-76 and the RX6B was the TCW-77 and that it was bigger??

TCW 76 and TCW 77 refers to the compressor wheel codes.
And yes, TCW 77 is bigger than TCW 76(Apex kit sold in the US). TCW 77 wheel flows about 60lb/min, about the same as a 60-1 and GT 3540

Hey Chuck, correct me if I am wrong, but I thought there were only two differences in the RX6a/RX6b. One was in the exhaust manifold. The b manifold is different allowing it to sit lower off of the engine so the stock airpump can still be retained. The turbos themselves though are identical. Secondly, an upgraded wastegate given the A model having a poorly designed valveguide.

I called apexi usa today and a long talk with them, I had them check out my turbine serial number and it came back as the rx6b, with the .p27 tcw77ls which according to them will flow 550hp as opposed to the rx6a which flows 450hp. Just figured Id let you guys know. He said that this is the biggest they make right now.

the rx6b turbo part number is TCW77LS-P27

the plate on the bearing housing should have this number on there.
