What is up with Hayes Engineering's rebuilding job
I was just gonna buy a car with a rebuilt engine with streetport done by hayes engineering in June of 2000, but the engine went out yesterday. The engine only put out 8000 freeway miles. The housing seemed to have gone out. The car wasn't running lean cuz the car was tuned every 3 months by xs. What is up with their rebuild? Are they just bad or what? Do you think they'll still fix it under warranty even though it is 4 months passed the warranty? What you guys think. thanx in advance

I live up hear close to seattle and have been to their shop once just to check it out. They know what they are doing somewhat. But when you get any of these shops that try and make to much money by expanding to fast they lose their quality assurance and I think that is what has happened. I build my own engines but if I didn't I would not buy from them, I think I would have to buy from pineaple racing in OR, because all I have ever heard about them is completely positive. I have NEVER heard any thing bad about them. As for the warranty I doubt they will honor it unless they find that it was a major mistake on their part. Any ways good luck and I hope you learn to do your own work or find a shop that you trust.

though i have no personal experience with hayes, i have heard from several reputable sources that they are not a shop to be dealt with. at least not if you want quality work, or new parts.
one case that comes to mind was a guy that had them build supposedly the most built motor they could build. he supplied BRAND NEW housings and other parts for the rebuild. to shorten the story, he got the motor back, and let it set for over a year before it was ever installed in any car. he pulled the motor apart to check it out before he installed it, and found next to no real internal work done, and his housings were swapped with very worn used ones.
