What turbo would you get?

I have a 89 13BT. With a Haltech,FMIC, and fuel mods. What turbo should I get for a stock ported engine for street and some drag racing? Is a T78 too big for stock ports? Thanks.

A T-66 or T-70 would be good for 400 RWHP without much trouble. A TO4 will also be very good. Dale Clark has had good success with a T 60-1 hi fi. The T-78 usually only comes as part of the Greddy kit. I think you'd want an A/R ratio of around 1.0. Someone else may know better.

go for a T04B 0.96 A/R - divided 1.0A/R with p trim wheel, 60:1 compressor with 0.60A/R compressor housing, should give you 400+ fwHP

What is an A/R ratio?
I see a lot of recommendations for an A/R near 1 but don't know wht it means.

basically it is to do with the power band of the turbo, the bigger the number the higher up it will make HP, it will also spool slower, but it restricts the exhuast flow less, that being said there is a person on this forum with a T04B with a 1.32A/R exhuast on it and they are making positive pressure in the manifold at 2000rpm, a lot of it has to do with the design of the manifold in which the turbo is bolted to.
a 0.96A/R on a T04E/B is the smallest you want to go, it is a good set up for a street car with stock ports.

the T78 is best above 15psi, also it would take too long to spool with your stock ports.

T-66 and T-78 are about the same size.

I have a T-66 with 1.15 turbine. At 45 mph in 3rd gear, it takes several seconds to begin to really get moving. I might be going back to the .96 turbine.

How do you determine what turbo you have by looking at it? I have a pretty big Garrett (sp) on my truck and was just wondering what it might be. It's on a Navistar T444E diesel. Is there an ID plate or some stampings somewhere?
Thanks,
Don.

I saw a T-70, and it looked quite a bit smaller than a T-78(The Greddy turbo).

Yeah, as far as size goes the Greddy T-78 is a bit bigger
