Question What power with T51

I am interested in hearing from users of the T51 either HKS versions or Garrett types.

If you know your specs please list below.

*T51 spec (Trim eg KAI,SPL wheel/housing trims etc)
*Engine type (2 rotor only)
*Porting
*stock intake manifold or fabricated
*RWHP (list type of dyno)
*Boost used to get RWHP & rpm
*Preferably no NOS (If used list how much)

I hope to get some results of mine up soon after I complete the install, untill then it would be sweet to see what others have achieved with this unit.

-2 rotor
-street port with stock intake manifold
-HKS T51 SPL
-34-35psi on Gas
-640-655rwhp (Dyno-jet)

Nice

I am planning for up to 42 to 44psi boost as my ECU can map to 60+ and the compressor is designed to be efficient on my engine combination up to just over 45psi without overspeeding and still staying above 72% efficiency.

Shooting for fairly decent power

Good grief I didn't know our turbos could push that much

The map I have for my compressor trim and considering my very large exhaust wheel (Bigger than HKS offering) it can boost up to 50+psi but the problem is that my engine flows a little to much and it puts it in the wrong sector of the compressor map. Upon further analysis and factoring in incresed VE of the various factors influenced by the turbo and new exhaust manifold I will be running I feel that 40psi will be my limit before I go of the map "in terms of flow rate". I think that should be enough

The beauty of this turbo is that it has a sweet extended range in these upper regions that will allow it to handle very high pressure ratio's if your engine does not flow as much so you can make up for it by running greater boost. has a good deal extra boost capacity compared to a T76 which means it can be better matched to a low flowing 2 rotor like mine...... Looks good on paper, I hope to find out for real very soon.

BTW I am looking for a power range between 700bhp & 870+bhp (at the engine) without spray !

I should be right in that department..... I have a few spares LOL ! (the current motor is fully blueprinted race clearanced) and in a "fresh" state. Water Injection will be helping me reduce some of the peak stresses involved as well.

Yes T2 trans, I don't have enough mechanical grip to break it

And you plan to use this power where?

You have a ready supply of C16?

I have drums of race fuel ready to go Where will I use the power ? That is a very good question but I would say "in many places" I will need to work on the chassis to improve the mechanical grip so i can get the most out of it on the track. Electronics wise I have RaceLogic on my side ever played granturismo, bit like that but in real life........ I would never consider running this amount of projected power without traction control, it would be undrivable !

Hey Forcefed7, I bet a T88 running the same setup will put out more power. Why don't you finish my damn car and we can find out! Do you want your teeth pulled for free or what??

You need to learn to drive then pal! Power like that is drivable, sideways, but drivable

Difference is I will not have wheel tubs/slicks or massive weight transfer over to the rear, oh and I will be attempting to go around "corners"

1000kg and 800bhp of power on semi street tires = sideways, go fire up granturismo and see what I mean on sports tires, see how fast you go with tration control and then see if you can complete a lap without it on, gay example I know but is as close as most people come to seeing how hard it will be to drive without some "electronic assistance"

I am down for some speedway action too, back in the day I was know to hold third gear powerslides at fairly high speed to entertain the crowd hope to be able to do that in 4th after the upgrade Thanks for the driving tips though Steve.

Thanks Crispeed, my thoughts exactly After looking at the T51 it looks a bit small !!!! (I know I am sick) but man they were used behind 1.5lt 4 cylinders that reved to 10k rpm to make max power......... surley I could run a larger turbo ?

I think it will be a good "street" turbo !

A T88-34D has a smaller compressor and a smaller turbine than my T51 though the turbine is larger than a T51R (HKS type T51's) maybe this is why they have the potential for more power ? Less back pressure on the engine ?

its funny you should say about going and firing gran turismo up Peter, cause when i first got my PS2 with GT3 A spec, having been rather good even if i do say so myself at GT1 when i used to have a PS1 - about 4 years ago, i put it on hard, jumped into the likes of the NSX and Supra race cars and went for a blat, it only took a few laps before i was in the groove, but i felt i could go a couple a seconds a lap quicker but couldn't figure out where i would get that time from, i turned of the traction control and the auto corners sensory crap and instantly picked up those couple of seconds hahaha

PS - i brought another 7 for a road only car to get my fix until my other car is finished. You ever on ICQ these days man?

Cheers
Shane

Yes Shane and Steve I know I am a girl But seriously try and drive a 800bhp 1000kg car or (say 1000bhp 1280kg Supra) equivalent on street tires around a track on granturismo and see how far you go ! Try the same car with traction control turned on. It's only a game but hey it gives you a feel for what I hopefully will be experiencing

Then try the same test on 0-400m test if you can beat the traction/launch control then you are fooling yourself, especially with anything over 500bhp runing sports tires or even slicks ! let alone street tires. (remember you can adjust the amount of slip) and unlike the game which was modeled of racelogic's system BTW you can adjust many parameters to get the best function from the system (it is faster than any human ever will be and is results in much faster lap times) this is why it is being banned "again" from F1. Do not confuse a shitty manufacturer traction/launch control system with a proper performance racing orientated system such as RaceLogics (they make units for F1 applications & custom race versions "like mine")

This amount of power I want at my fingertips is a complete and utter waste if you cannot take full advantage of it anything below 100mph you need traction control in a straight line, let alone any amount of cornering as well. Like I said without my racelogic unit the only way I would think about justifying this amount of power is if I had a fully set up car for drag racing.

You have compressor maps for this? Where can I get ahold of some?

I'd love to see more than just the classic T-series garrett.

That is exactly what I was thinking. In my opinion I don't think I will run out of compressor with the T88. I think the larger turbine will make a difference, but we'll have to wait and see.
