i have a s4 that was converted from n/a to turbo before it was in my hands. i need to replace the downpipe but first i need to know what kind of turbo i have to make sure the diameters match up. the number skew on the turbocharger reads: HT185 25CE. can anyone offer me some information on this??

Well I know my engine isn't a T2, it's a 13B with these turbo add-ons. That still makes it a stock turbo though? The question I'm really grinding down to find the answer to is what size diameter downpipe do I need to fit this?

what he means is it's a stock turbo for a t2... not sure which year though.. I thought they changed turbos in the s5's vs the s4's. Can't remember off the top of my head though.

s4 and s5 can use the same dp. be careful...When I went to a 3" dp on stock fuel I blew my motor. Was new to the whole turbo thing at the time.

just the downpipe change is what caused your motor to blow because of the stock fuel lines? i'd imagine the fuel lines have been upgraded in my s4, since it changed over from n/a to a turbo system, but i'm not sure.

this whole situation sounds pretty sticky. i'm working out a deal to purchase a 3" headshielded downpipe off a t70 setup. the guy also has a stock downpipe that he could sell me instead (i'm guessing that's a 2.5"?). he was just double-checking with me before shipping to make sure he sent me the correct one.

so is the 3" too big for my setup?

well what do you plan to do with the car?
HP goals?

Also, a downpipe made to fit a T70 won't fit your stock turbo.

you need to research what is done to your car. is it a fully swap t2 or just a half *** swapped t2. the guy that blew is motor because he gave it a 3" downpipe with no upgrades to his fuel pump or injectors and probably turned up the boost/boost creep to a dangerous level for stock everything. A t70 uses vband usually as far as my knowledge. you'll definitely won't have anything that will bolt on to it with what you have now. please read more technical threads before 'upgrading' your car of unknown origin.

ok, so that answers my question: "a downpipe made to fit a T70 won't fit" and now i also know that i do have a stock turbo after all.

my current goal with the car is just to restore it up to its current potential (i'm stripping and replacing the interior this winter). all the mechanics are strong, it just needs the downpipe replacement and a new hood so that the turbo engine can breathe better (my current downpipe with dents and a rust hole isn't doing it any good). i don't mean to throw in upgrades and make it faster without knowing what's up, which is why i was asking what kind of turbo i have based on the skew. i searched for the skew earlier on google and throughout this forum but didn't come up with any results. i guess now i know.

correct! when you eliminate the few cats that are on the stock dp your boost goes up a tramendous amount. I think I hit like 14 pounds of boost!
