what do you guys use for a filter?

K im having some issues getting my t04r spooled as soon as I would like it too (im used to a hybrid to4e). So the other day I'm driving along, and out of nowhere the car feels much peppier and spools a little quicker, so I continue home, wondering what had happened.

Well i pop the hood and immediatly notice that my air filter had worked it's way loose from the coupler on the front of the turbo. So that has me thinking about trying to just run with a screen over the turbo.

What do you guys use? Any one had turbo damage from debris making it's way into the turbo?

It sounds like you need a bigger filter, and/or a better flowing filter. Screens are not a good idea IMO, and I have seen unbiased test results that show engines producing better results with a well-designed high-flow filter vs. a simple mesh screen.

Evil Aviator K&N filter rule of thumb (which hopefully isn't any more stupid than the other stupid internet guidelines, lol.):

FWHP / 4.53 = K&N Filter Media Area sq in

Using a larger filter than necessary does not usually hurt performance, and increases the duty cycle of the filter.

I run a K&N 7" Dia., 9" long, 4" inlet. Straight, not tapered on my T66. It is in between the radiator, and the FMIC(CAI ) It is a little larger than a coffee can.

Filter Setup

K&N (~6inch Dia x 10inch long) instock at the local AutoZone ~$50 . i think it is for a cummins turbo or something. it had a soft ~3.5inch inlet that i replaced with a piece of 4inch exh tubing to fit the coupler.

So the bigger the better? Seems like K&N is still has the best filters too.
