Based on the success of the FB thread, and because im too half arsed to start a build thread, I thought this could be a good place for the turbo 1st gen crowd to showcase our work and bounce ideas of each other.
I'm a bit of a newb at the whole fabrication thing, but have been having a ball knocking up the twin gate manifold, I/c piping ect.
My efforts for today; made up a dump pipe (i think "down pipe" in americanese). Im pretty chuffed with myself, it looks a bit rough, but i think its better than any shop would have done for me.
Its only 3" because any bigger and i would have had to introduce more and more bends , a couple of reducer cones and clearance would have been an issue- its tight enough in there as it is, so what iv got is pretty straight; two 20-25* bends and the wastegate reroute is a pretty much straight shot into the inside radius and down the hole. I put a bit of a twist into it to hopefully follow the vortexing coming from the turbine - its just an idea
I'll be taking all this down to my TIG guy soon to get a pro finnish on all the visible and important welds.
absolutely ******* nothing, its -10F outside and I have no heat in the garage.
only thing that happened to the FB is a mouse pulled a bunch of insulation from the middle carpet carried it over too, and made a nest right next to the turbocharger on my 12 Chevy Sonic; almost started an engine fire.
"Strange that the car almost feels faster with the stocker, probably because the power comes on smoother " Thanks Benjamin, I feel better about my stock Nikki.
(Edit - Sorry didn't realize at some point this became a turbo thread - NA here.)
It's nothing major but ordered some new door aluminum door panels to start on my semi-stripped interior! My interior is currently all over the place as far as quality goes so I feel slightly less shitty for wanting to strip it down a little. Not sure if it's allowed in this kind of forum but the door panels are from LRBspeed, love the look of their aluminum pieces.
been slowly building my 8.8 rear end over the last few years.. off and on motivation and not wanting to take my car apart to fit it all a d test then put it back while getting a new tailshaft or my custom one modified..
well 2 weeks ago I decided screw it lets try and am now waiting for the driveshaft to be modded.. hoping it is done this week as our biggest event as a club is saturday locally and I may not be able to make it ugh
so the last month Ive made new link bars and fitted the 8.8, designed and made custom brackets to use stock gslse rear brakes.. there would be some minor changes if I was to make more rear ends but I need mine running to test everything.. also added brackets and made a panhard setup which we will see how that goes.. didn't want a bent one..
