Question what could i use??? i don't understand what turbo is good for what...

i know this probably gets asked a thousand times, but i can't make heads or tails of what turbo does what. i'm not asking you to make a decision for me, but could you point me towards somewhere that i could maybe learn enough to figure this all out?

i wanna use a single turbo, that i'm sure of... simplifies the engine bay, less heat, etc... but i'm only looking for around 350rwhp. is there a small(er) turbo that i could use to do this? would like to keep boost under, or at least near 15psi max. i am more interested in a quick spool-up and mid range power than just huge top end numbers.

does anyone have a suggested set-up for me or a link that i could go learn how to size one up properly? what about a fuel delivery system and IC choice?

i'm trying to learn, so don't flame too much please

I did 348RWHP @ 14.6 PSI with the stock twins in sequential mode. If you want to go single pick up a GT35R kit, a T04E, or a 60-1 with a small exhaust A/R.

Twins are best for what you want. A small single would work though, only running one at 15psi is not taking advantage of it though.

This question does get asked a million times... but that's OK...

First, I have a collection of dynos here (about 100 of them!):

http://www.catenet.net/dyno.php

Second, there are plenty of singles that will run at 15 PSI happily and smoke a twin turbo car; you just gotta pick the right one

The comment about not getting a small turbo is right. If you think you want 350 rwhp, go for 400. Once you have it all put together, you will want more I have never seen a post on here like, "Yeah I got my single turbo XXXX set up and I have 450 rwhp... but it's too fast, how do I make it slower?".

The other thing to do is to start doing searches in the single turbo section for some of these "keywords" so you can get some more info:

T04E
T04S
T04R
60-1
62-1
T78
T88
GT35/40
GT40
R85
RX-6

The above is a sample of some commonly used turbos.... searching for some of those terms will pull up at least a week's worth of good reading!

thanks guys

while i think you are right, eventually i'm gonna want more power, i have a bit of an agreement with my bride-to-be, that my car will not dyno at over 400rwhp. i'm not sure why i typed 350 (duh) sorry about that. i'll search out those turbos Wargasm. thanks.

well, lookin at those graphs, seems like the T04E and the RX-6 are the closest to what i'm looking for... and since the RX-6 isn't being sold anymore (right?) i guess i'm gonna end up looking more into the T04E

just out of curiousity though, is there a turbo out there that would be really well suited to my original specifications??? i know, you guys think its a waste of time/money, but can that be done? really fast spool with about 350rwhp at 15psi? i know that the twins can do it, i'm just curious though.

who knows... maybe i'll stay a twin instead.

If you do deside to stay with twins, I have a brand new set of BNR stage three twins on a manifold setup for nonsqential that am selling.
These turbos have made 400rwhp on a properly setup car.
The dyno graph is on the site wargasm posted a link to.

PM or Email me if your interested.

The T04E fits exactly what you've requested (cleaned up engine bay, cooler temps, simplicity, great sequintual like response and 350 ish wrhp @ 15 psi reliably). Don't get caught up in the internet power wars...... If your wanting a great street car and aren't interested in being a internet hero you'll find that 350 rwhp in a rx-7 is freakin fast and will blow away probly 95% of the cars you'll encounter on the streets and you'll have early nice linear boost response (great for autocross and stop light to stoplight driving).

thank you racer extreme... that's exactly the type of answer i was hoping for

Capt. Bill 1, i'm not sure what i'm going to do, but i am sure that it will be down the road a year or two... so i can't buy those stage 3's off ya... although, it is mighty tempting

I'd probably get a T04S over the T04E the prices are soooo close and the S is better.

Why will your fiance see the dynosheet? Go fast and never show her.

WTF does 400 rwhp have to do with anything? You can kill yourself with 200 rwhp and you wont even have traction for 350 rwhp on the street with an FD.
And why the hell is your girlfriend telling you what you can and cant do with your car? Are you for real? Im guessing 18 years old.
This might be the most pathetic post ive ever read in the last 4 years. PLEASE MAKE THIS A STICKEY

You should be both embarressed and ashamed.

You're going to marry a girl who's going to watch you dyno?
**** you have a tuff life ahead of you.
Unless you go 401rwhp then you'll be a free man.Food for thought.
Just think more to spend on the seven!

Hey PUG get the R85 and get a Boostcontroller.
Set the Boost at 4psi and put it on the dyno and let the GF watch.

Before you start thinking about SINGLE. What mods do you currently have??
if you don't have much, Start collecting. And make an appointment with DEE,
now and set it for the SPRING.. before race season

LEts see here the run down:
Front Mount IC
Standalone Fuel management
Fuel pump
Fuel Rail
Regulator
Injectors.
MP/CB
Radiator
and thats only the beginnning..

Seriously though. Get the biggest you can afford.
You can just buy a BIG *** turbo and tune it to 400rwhp way within
its efficiency and not breathing hard.

As far as fast spool and etc. Don't let that be such a factor.
Lag isn't bad when you putting around town and not wanting to be
on boost, anyways. And if you are racing and wanting some GOO.
You shouldn't be Revving under 4K rpms anyways..

Good luck

I'm working on an SMIC or a V-mount... don't want an FMIC.
currently have a PFC installed that Dee tuned for me
fuel pump is on the list, same with injectors... do i really need to change the rail?? (didn't know that... thought that 1300cc secondaries could get me there... maybe i need to double check my source)
have a dp and cat-back already, will be getting a high flow cat (metallit(sp?) if i can find it but i still wanna be able to pass inspection so i'm gonna get a corvette smog pump so i can lose the mechanical one we have)
radiator is sitting in my room waiting for me to purchase a beater so i can tear into the FD and install it. no overheating issues now though, so why change what ain't broke

spool is probably the biggest issue to me... more interested in power fast than lots of power. if i have to stick with the twins for this, then so be it someone recommended a T04B to me though, so i'll have to look into that.
