wastegate question

I currently have a tial 46mm WG and am experiencing pretty bad boost creep. I was thinking of switching to the HKS 50mm WG. but my question is will my current flange for the 46mm tial mate up to the 50mm hks? I can get the WG off from under the car but i don't wanna have to pull the turbo and mani to change the flange it my old one will work...

Thanx in advance

What boost controller are you using? The 46mm should be plenty big enough for that set-up. I'm using a 44mm Tial on my 1.06 T4 GT35R with a profec B spec II and I have no boost/creep issues whatsoever.

I am not a single turbo buff, but I am a fan of HKS and eye their wastegates for future use... It depends on which series you will be using as the GT series is VBand and the others are not. I don't see an actual size of flange listed for the others... However if you are dead set on changing wastegates I would think you would be able to change flanges on the manifold... Just a thought since no one is responding...

The only V band wastegate I've seen from HKS is the GT series. All others are 4 bolt. I've not seen any 4 bolt flange not bolt up to any 4 bolt wastegate.
By the way, I'm looking for a Tial 46mm wastegate. If you decide to sell, let me know.

The TiAl 46mm wastegate has a different bolt pattern than any HKS flange. It will not bolt up.

Out of curiosity, what is your target boost? What size spring in the wastegate? That wastegate should be big enough to hold steady at 10lbs or so.

A high flow cat would control your boost creep..

I'm using a profec b spec II. but it was turned off the hole time. I'm sure i could just use an HKS flange but i was just hoping i could do the swap without removing turbo and manifold.

Thanx for the info newborn. That is not what i wanted to hear (but what i needed to know.)

Well i want to be able to run as low as 10-13psi on low boost and up to 17 on high. I was told the WG should work no problem also. not sure on the spring rate but i think it is "about" 11 psi. And it is deffinately opening.

I am going to try and change a few things i think may be affecting my boost creep

1. The Tial instruction say to use a 6mm hose and tap into boost source BEFORE throttle plates. I tapped into one of the ports on my UIM and that IS NOT a 6mm outlet. I have read using a boost source closer to the turbo will help controll boost better but after the throttle plates will spool quicker? I just ordered an easy tap for the coupler coming right off the turbo.

2. redo my dump tube. I'll take pix and post them so you can see why.

Does anyone know if any "local type" auto stores would carry an easy-tap? I know i ordered one already but i can't wait. I want this resolved.

Thanx for the replys everyone feel free to share anymore inpute you may have.

Cyan
-edit-
I'd like to keep my exhaust free flowing so no cats.

I don't think this is boost creep. Sounds like ineffective boost control. How high do you boost? Once you move your boost reference closer to the turbo I bet it will settle down.

If you don't want to wait on an easy tap, you could pull the compressor housing off and drill & tap into the side of it, like this.

Did the wastegate come in a TiAl box? They write the spring rating on the outside of the box in bar. Is .7, .8 or .9 scribbled on the outside? If not, you can pull the wastegate off and pull the top off. The color of the spring will correspond to its rating (chart here: http://www.tialsport.com/documents/w3_tial_46_sp.pdf). You won't be able to run less boost than spring pressure. If it's "about 11", it might be the .8 bar spring (11.6 psi).. if it's getting reference from the UIM, it might not be fully opened until 13.5 or 14, particularly with a small hose. Moving the source closer to the turbo and running a larger diameter hose will probably get it under control.

Or you can do this:

http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/me...egory_Code=FTG

Thats what I did for my car. I had the boost controller setup the same way as you have and I was experiencing weird boost control; alot of spiking , not hold boost properly (I am using the blitz sbc-id boost controller). As soon as I moved the pressure source to just after the turbo the boost reponse is way quicker and better control. I have the tial 44mm wastegate.

Thanx for the info guys. I really hope this will solve my problem. I purchaded the WG used so i don't know for sure what it came with other than what the previous owner told me. But looking at the chart, i would say probably the 11.6 psi(Large green) spring And i was wrong I meant to type quick-tap instead of easy tap earlier. I ordered mine from same link you posted R.K. I'd like to avoid drilling into the compressor housing if possible. wish i would have chose a faster shipping method now lol

Glad I could help. I chose a 2 day delivery time but paid through my *** for it ( I live in Canada). It was worth the extra money.

Thumbs up FIXED... sort of lol

Well i got the quick-tap and hooked it up. I'm now able to keep my boost from climbing uncontrolably. It still creeps just a little but it will stay under 14lbs now. And i still think my dump tube it restricting a little flow. I'll have it adjusted and post the results asap.

Thanx for the help guys!
