Wastegate flange question
The wastegate has a small ring type thing that fits in the flange by the piston/valve where the exhaust gases enter (shown in first picture). When I sit the flange adapter on top, it doesn't fit flush (second picture). Is it supposed to fit flush? The third picture shows the flange without the ring inside and it fits flush. The directions that came with it don't even show that ring piece.

That's a tial wastegate by the looks of it and no the ring doesn't sit flush that's normal. I think when it's mounted it get's pushed in and then sits flush.

Thanks. It sort of looked like the ring would seat better after it gets tightened up, but I wanted to ask before I started wrenching the hardware together.

Yes, that ring is design to not sit flush. Once the wastegate is tightened down to the mounting surface, that ring gets pushed in and then sits flush. It pushes into the valve seat making resistance against the valve head to keep a good positive seal.
